Will the Bengals draft Joey Burrow?

Featured Replies

Just for giggles, let me float this out there then. Say the Bengals end up with the #1 pick, with Washington #2 and their coach wants his own guy. Would you trade for Haskins and take Chase Young with your pick? Or stay put and take Joe (or Tua).

Oh man you know I have to say yes to that scenario. Still need to see how Haskins plays the rest of the year. Playing behind an OL that bad is an extreme confidence killer for a young QB and it obviously wouldn’t be any better in Cincinnati. But if he plays pretty well to finish the year, then I say yeah make that trade to get Young and Haskins. I’d rather have Burrow because he’s way more mobile than Haskins and behind our OL that would be a huge asset, but getting what I consider a franchise guy and the best player in the draft would be a great move.

That deal sounds good but would be a major red flag on Haskins.

On the surface that scenario seems ideal. However, if the Bengals felt like Haskins was a franchise changing type of QB. Then the Bengals probably would take him last year in the first round when his stock was high. However, the Bengals must not have viewed as that. So I doubt they would view him as that now after what most likely looks to be a rough rookie season.

So it really would depend on what the Bengals coaches think of him.

That’s the thing though, do we really trust this staff to properly evaluate a QB anyways. We’re going to have the top pick in all likelihood so if we’re going to go QB it’s essentially idiot proof unless they choose someone besides Burrow or Tua. But this staff decided to roll with AD. I’m not sure QBs we’re ever seriously evaluated. We only took Finley in the 4th because it was a contract year for Dalton and you basically have to take a QB at some point.

I have heard that Justin Herbert is the safer pick of all 3. He is bigger 6’5 and would be more durable. That is just not my opinion. Have heard many analyst say the same thing

Sometimes a qb just needs to be given a chance and the ball out once in a game. The best qb of all time Tom Brady about lost his starting job in college to a baseball player. Then he never becomes the Patriots starter if Bledsoe never gets hurt. Brady maybe never plays a down for the Patriots if it wasn't for an injury. Brady wasn't going to earn the starting spot in practice. Kurt Warner may have never became a starter in the NFL or lead the greatest show on turf if it wasn't for Trent Green getting hurt.

Point being sometimes you can't tell how good a qb is in practice. Or vice versa a qb may look like a stud in practice but is a dud in the game. Sometimes a guy has to be able to play in a game to show what he can do. I'm pretty sure Urban Meyer and other OSU coaches are probably surprised theirselves with how great he has looked.

All very good points! Saw on tv today that Lamar Jackson is actually 22 days YOUNGER than Burrows, does that give anybody a pause on taking Burrows with the #1 pick??

Also, history shows that QB’s with just 1 good year in college don’t fare well in the NFL

I thought the history that shows that was talking about qbs with only 1 year of starting in college don't fare well in the NFL? Which Burrows would now have 2 full years of starting.

Burrow threw for almost 2,900 yards, 16 TDs, and just 5 INTs in 2018. He isn't a one year phenom like Haskins.

I stand corrected, wasn’t aware of that, thought he was hurt, transferred and sat out a year, thanks!

Tua should be out of the running now.

Tua should be out of the running now.

He is.

Tua should be out of the running now.

He is.

If I'm the Bengals I draft Burrow. Then if Tua does have a big fall and is still there in the 6th round, I draft Tua too. Give him a year to rehab and if ever fully recovers you have him in case Burrow didn't pan out. Then if Burrow does pan out, you can trade Tua.

He is.

LOL, don’t bet on it!! I think it’s assured now we’re taking Tua, we just love taking 1st round picks that are hurt and don’t contribute ANYTHING their first year (and no years after that for some!!!!!)

Shame this isn't 2020 and we can have the kid from Clemson. He's a legit #1 pick. Not many 1rst round QB's pan out and with the Bengals luck... :ohbrother:
