Is the 13 point loss to CovCath a moral victory for Highlands?

Featured Replies

Nope, if anything it’s another time Highlands has been shutout.

You could say the defense played well but since it is a team game a very bad offense performance kind of cancels it out.

I heard that, the offense and the defense might not get to share all the talent but they definitely get to share the loss together.

Not at all. The final score of this game is irrelevant imo.

This game was never ever close so it might as well been 64-0.

I have played this game at two levels and know first hand when you have been had and Highlands was had tonight just like Highlands use to have their way with CovCath not long ago.

CovCath is the better football program right now...

I am going to quote this with the same response I did in the game thread:

I wouldn't go "64-0" but the game did have a 35-0 feel to me.

No such thing as moral victory's. It's been said before from the Guru and I am saying it now. Seriously? SMH.

We could go with "Pleasant Surprise" if that is more palatable?

Covcath has 3 shutout wins over Highlands in 3 consecutive years. Ouch.

Well there is still some left for the Colonels to do if they want to even out the rivalry.

Yep. The Dale Mueller years killed CCH. Hoping Eviston stays at CCH for a long time and can get 10 straight years of victories over HHS like Dale did.

They are on track though. Eddie knows what he is doing.

I don’t think Highlands has a trophy case to store moral victories, but a fairly decent one to store trophies that count!

While I get the point you make in starting the post, the day HHS starts counting moral victories will be a sad day.

The moral victory is absolutely valid. Different group of kids each year, for this group it’s pretty impressive. Highlands lost to Conner for heavens sake. I thought they played inspired football and were a couple of big plays away from this being a very different thread. Maybe a couple of Huddleston plays? Absolutely a game this group of young men on both sidelines can be proud of.

Kids need to enjoy and take pride in any accomplishments. Celebrating the stop was ok. The taunting about it on the way to the handshake while losing 13-0 wasn’t.

The taunting after the stop at the end of the game didn’t go unnoticed, and will certainly be on their minds if they meet again. I know CCH certainly is not happy that they only won by 13.

Moral Victories are a myth as no one has the guts/pride to admit to one because of the negative connotation connected with them. That being said no matter what we're doing in life we evaluate where we were, where we are and where we're going. I think after that game HHS kids, coaches and fans can feel better about the direction they are headed. I would be proud of what Coach Weinrich has done with this team. HHS can only measure themselves in relation to CCH. They are not there yet and everyone knows it, but I think the pendulum has swung and the gap is not as great. All you can ask. HHS be proud of the work being done and the effort. As far as the goal line stand, I have zero problem with the defense being happy about stopping CCH there and reacting. That happiness should have ended by the handshake line.
