The refs did a credible job in calling what was a rough and ugly contest. There were a few missed calls...as is the case in every game...but they did not determine the outcome. Would I prefer that they missed just one or two less than they did? Sure. That said, I would in no way cheapen the effort on the part of any kid in that game.

 

Let me add this...these two teams could meet 3 more times this season.

Well after reading this fantastic thread, I'd like to chime in,,,,,,this was no more/no less than a slopfest! With regards to the tactics of the BC coach,,,pretty smart to try to get the 3 players in foul trouble, if indeed that was his angle. And if it wasn't,,,for those opposing coaches in attendence, I'd guess it will be theirs. As for the officiating,,,some of the typical officiating pet peeves of mine, namely calling a foul directly under the goal from half court when there is another official 3 feet from the play and he sees nothing. If you're not in position to see it clearly, then you didn't see it. However, that happened both ways. And as a RH fan, I'd like to say that the girls from BC never gave up even when down by 16. For those who can remove the royal blue glasses, our girls fouled themselves into trouble. Thankfully, it was the opener and a bit of savvy will be gained by simple mistakes made due to the fact that it's early. Poor positioning, falling in love with the blocked shot, shoving off, etc. will come more under control. And I pray that there is a lesson on how to eat some clock at the end of a close game in their near future! Just my humble opinion!!!

I have a feeling that if Boyd County would have won this game that this thread would be on about 6 pages by now. It appears as if this will be a long season!

There's nothing wrong with good, hard basketball. As long as it wasn't dirty.

BC's "ruff" play was not just a "tactic" in order to get RH's key players in foul trouble as mentioned above. StripedShirt is correct.......the Lady Lions have a history of playing very physical, agressive round ball. My daughter often comes home from practice bruised and whelped. (She's on the FreshMan team and they ofter "scrimmage" the older girls.) But that's not the coach, that's the girls. Since grade school, this bunch of girls have loved that style of play. Mine Included. But.......27/24 is not a lopsided affair. Not only can these girls dish it out, they can take it as well.

As for the refs. I sat on the visitors side, embarrased by the actions of some of my fellow BC parents. They were screaming the entire game about call after call that was not made against RH. I started this thread expecting to read all the RH posts about what poor sports BC fans are. SO......imagine my surprise when Post #3 was from a RH fan complaining about the refs!!!!!!

 

Bottom line, "adults" (and I use that term loosely) are gonna complain about refs, win or lose. It's kinda like a sport within a sport.

Coming from Magoffin County, mid-90's - I kind of lean toward the rough style of physical play as well. Nothing dirty, just good hard boxing out, hard-nosed defense, and taking away cuts.

 

As for the refs, I think that is a great part of the high school game. I LOVE to get on the refs, even when they are making good calls. Its just the only place in the world that you can scream "nuts and bolts, nuts and bolts, we got screwed!!!" and get away with it!
