I recall a time before I was a Trinity fan that the enrollment had gone down so much that there was serious consideration given to making it a coed school. I still seem to recall 80-100 people dressed for Trinity's football games. Yes we are blessed to have a large enrollment and yes having a large number of bodies on the team is an advantage BUT if something happened and Trinity suddenly lost half of it's student body I would be willing to be my last dollar that they would still have 90-100 kids out for football every year.

While I was at Trinity, St. X had, on average, 400 more students than we did. We still won our fair share against the Xaverians. The numbers thing is a lot of fun to play with, I just don't buy it as the No. 1 factor.

I think that is an oxymoronic sentence.

I'm sure they do. The difference is, they haven't done 6 out of the past 7 years. That is a fact that is irrefutable.

I agree and thanks for the support.

You are more than welcome for the support. I always support my fellow Catholic brothers and sisters every chance I get.

I'm confused, please clarify something for all of us.

Does your point that "No other school in the state does this," apply to your first comment "...that it is not too fun to lift 6 days a week from January to August, go through indoor conditioning, play in all of the 7 on 7's, and have football commitments 6 times a week from August to December 1. Sure it's easier to go out on Fridays and play at a winning school, but it's not easy to get up at 6:00 in mid January and lift.".?????

or;

Does your point that "No other school in the state does this," apply to your second comment, which by the way was separated by a comma which indicates a separate thought, that "unless they've been to the finals 6 out of 7 years."?????

Sorry for the confusion; let me try it again.

No other school in the state has had practice 5 times a week from August to December 1 and a game every Friday, 6 out of 7 years.

I'm sure many programs, lift, do 7-7, winter conditioning, run and practice hard. I never meant to say they didn't. But rather, only that they haven't done it as long as Trinity has the past 7 years by virtue of the earlier elimination from the playoffs.

That makes all the difference in the world! That's not the way it read the first time. Just for the record, X can say the same thing for 3 of the last 4 years.

Good Luck tonight!

GO ROCKS!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree...1 question though....I've read numerous threads regarding smaller schools, I'll use NCC as an example, when they lost to Ryle & Cov. Catholic, many posters wrote, well, they weren't expected to beat a 4a school or 3a school, which I agree with. Why do you think they said that? My guess would be because of the discrepancy in enrollment and the teams with larger #s should be expected to beat teams with smaller #s...Had those 3 teams been equal in size, I'm sure that wouldn't have been said...I think the same applies to T and X...They are always going to have the biggest enrollment #s of any other team they play in Ky and IMO, should be expected to win against smaller size schools...

There are numerous examples of smaller schools being far better than larger schools. Taking a local example, Campbell county, before their recent (and dramatic) turnaround, would've been expected to lose soundly to a team like Beechwood or NCC. Obviously, the numbers don't tell the whole story.

Its what keeps Henderson Co from competing(sp) with the Trinitys, X;s * Males. But they work just as hard.

yes, there are exceptions but thats what they are...exceptions...A Good big school will beat a good small school 9 out of 10 times....

RockMom, thanks for the post. I love my wife and we disagree on certain things. Everything I post comes from my thought process and I know the high school situation very well. I showed no disrespect to your school or X. The facts are just there and I'm not going into all that stuff. I don't know which post bothered you so I can't explain it but if folks on here don't mind point it out to me. Some of my comments come after reading the Rock Fans comments. After our game I waited several days to post my thoughts and again the Rocks won and my son is fine, but every time I've seen a game with the ball inside the five yard line I say to myself "why didn't we try that play"? I'm just a fan whose team lost and I hope this post helps you. 1st Samual 16:7 which states "Man looks at the outward apperance...the Lord looks at a Man's heart".

I disagree...#s are THE biggest piece...Not the only piece, but, definately the biggest....I wonder if WCentral, one of the smallest 4a teams, would feel the same about winning a championship in 1a or 2a as they would to win a 4a ring....I say not, but, that scenario is very close to what Trinity faces every year...

You're right! That is why Paul Dunbar and Henderson County, two schools with comparable numbers in their school, are so dominant! I can't believe I ever doubted that our teams even needed to practice.

Shows what I know...

All sarcasm aside, our numbers help but I think the biggest advantage is the number of kids that want to come out for the team. The competition to become a starter makes our kids better and better from within. They never stop competing with each other because they know there are many others who will take their place if they mess up. Schools with fewer kids in their programs do not have that. Schools with less tradition behind their programs to not have the numbers because not as many come out for the teams.

Paul Dunbar and Henderson County both have approximately 1000-1200 boys in their schools; numbers similar to what Trinity(approx. 1400) and St.X(approx. 1300) both have. Why do we not see them competing at the same level? Numbers are important but not having the program and the coaching to help get things in line leaves the numbers worthless.

Are numbers important? Yes. Are they an advantage? Yes. Are they the only ones that matter? No.

Back to Bob....I think that we might have just watched his last game as our head coach...Bob, thank you so very much for what you have done...you are truly a legend.....Trinity, FOREVER.
