Harper's ads do, however, seem to be fulfilling their intended purpose. They are creating buzz for his GOP primary challenge to Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who filed for re-election Monday.

Harper, a west Kentucky native, lives in Paducah, where he operates Harper Industries, a holding company for seven construction-related units that has offices in Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas and does business in more than 20 states.

"Ernie adequately represented the Republican Party, and I believed in the ideals that he represented in his approach," Harper said in an interview with the Associated Press last month. "But as things have developed in the last three years, it has become evident to me that he is not re-electable."

Harper has been active in education and work-force development issues. He is a member of the McCracken County School Board, has been active with the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence and is the past chairman of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

Harper's campaign Web site - http://www.harperforgovernor.com - said he is a professional race car driver on the International Hot Rod Association and National Hot Rod Association circuits.

In an interview posted Monday on The Conservative Edge, a news and information Web site, Harper said he is opposed to casino gambling, against raising the minimum wage and favors eliminating Kentucky's alternative minimum tax. Small-business owners and operators have lobbied lawmakers to do away with the tax.

He lost my vote when he started his ads the day after election day.

His ads started BEFORE this past election day. Since I am officially a Democrat I can't vote for him in the primary and I'll have to see who the Dem candidate is (since they are dropping like flies) before I decide if I would vote for him in the general election.

I just can't believe he is listing KERA as one of his achievements on those commercials.

Ben Chandler is out for sure?

Who?

Does anyone not from his area even know who this guy is?

:thumb: Couldn't agree with you more!

Governor Fletcher has been very good for Northern Kentucky. He will have my support as far as he makes it. If Mr. Harper wins the primary I will give him my consideration at that time.

I think you have proved his point in feeling he needed to start promoting early to get an identity out there.

Mr. Harper seems like a man with too much money and not enough to do, I can't understand his advertising blitz this early.

If KERA is an accomplishment for him, he lost all of the educators votes.

KERA=Kentucky Early Retirement Act for all teachers

He lost a lot of people's votes starting his ads before election day of this year!!!!!!

I don't really know where he is going with this campaign. He is starting it way too early in my opinion, but I guess he is trying to get his name out there and build a little bit of momentum before the others jump in. The only problem is people are sick of election commercials, I don't imagine these ads being viewed favorably. It also seems like he is trying to court teachers. I guess teachers would be a voting bloc completely against Fletcher, but how many of them are Republican and how many of them are appreciative of things like KERA? Just seems like an odd campaign to me.

Agree with you on that.

What teacher could have ever liked KERA? How many are exactly Republican? Why are the elections giving me headaches?

Tune in next year and find out who will win Election 2007...............

I will agree to you on that he has helped revitalize much of Northern Kentucky and smaller cities tourism and commerce....

Who are the likely nominees for the Dems next year?

It doesn't really matter. No Republican is electable anyway (probably for the next 30 years)....Ernie has seen to that!
