November 30, 200619 yr Gametime, I personally think that Frank Solich would be a nice hire, AND I don't think it would take a great deal of money to get him in there.
November 30, 200619 yr Why you bring UK into it? I expressed my opinion on Thomas. I think it is fair to question his leadership and how UC treats their football coaches, compensation wise. I thought Dantonio was a good coach...great defensive mind, but a tad conservative offensively. Heck Thomas could hit it big with a good hire. You have had NOTHING positive to say in this thread, and I'm calling you on it. Plain and simple. There is nothing MT could have said or done to make things better when he got here. He shut up, and hired the best guy for the job. I didn't like pulling the plug on AK, but I know what went on that day leading up to what he did, and while I don't like it I can't say I blame him. He's out with the fans at the activities before every home FB game, and has done a solid job since the storm cleared. I'll take my word for it on this one...

I also KNOW it would cause a firestorm among the fan base like you wouldn't believe. Trust me on that one...

Would you have taken a job, where the person hiring you says you can have this job, but you have to shut up and stay out of the way?
November 30, 200619 yr OK.. Would you have taken a job, where the person hiring you says you can have this job, but you have to shut up and stay out of the way? At $500,000+? Darn right I would...
November 30, 200619 yr Why? I am not close to UC's program. I realize Huggins had some problems and you mentioned something about a DUI. IMO, this is a guy who is a big time coach who got had a bad year at Nebraska and the sky fell. Look what Ohio has done this season. They are in the MAC title game. AND, I think Solich would come on board for CONSIDERABLY less money than many others. Why the fan distaste?
November 30, 200619 yr Just for the record.... I heard that AD Mike Thomas no-showed for his appearance on WLW last night.
November 30, 200619 yr Mike Thomas cannot be surprised that his coach was a candidate for the MSU job. Heck, I posted a thread on it a couple of weeks ago right after Johnelle was fired. Its my understanding that most ADs have a short list of folks they want to pursue should the need arise. If he didn't and ends up waiting until Christmas to hire a coach, the coach will have no recruiting class for this coming season. If he screws this up , I can't imagine the BOT being thrilled.
November 30, 200619 yr I guess bashing UC football makes you feel better about the equally awful Wildcats. So be it... Would this be what the youngsters say - "out of left field?"
November 30, 200619 yr Just for the record.... I heard that AD Mike Thomas no-showed for his appearance on WLW last night. He had a fund raiser and a coaching candidate in town. Much more important than talking to Gamble...
November 30, 200619 yr Would this be what the youngsters say - "out of left field?" Let's just say his history is much better predicting things at UK...
November 30, 200619 yr Author I think Jimbo Fischer would be a great hire....If he gets the job I believe UC will continue on that upward swing.....:ylsuper:
November 30, 200619 yr I think Jimbo Fischer would be a great hire....If he gets the job I believe UC will continue on that upward swing.....:ylsuper: I agree. The LSU connection will add credibility in the minds of recruits.
December 1, 200619 yr From Rosecrans... Mike Thomas and deputy AD Bob Arkeilpane flew from Cincinnati to Baton Rouge to Kinston, N.C., back to Cincinnati today. It's believed they talked to LSU's Bo Pelini and East Carolina's Greg Hudson. The Bearcats are looking to finish the search soon, because if they don't the could get lost in the shuffle as the college football coaching carousel heats up. Expect a busy weekend in coaching news as more dominoes fall (and therefore create more openings -- possibly including another Big East opening). UC doesn't want to be left in the cold as more jobs open up. "We need to be cognizant of that, but we also need to be more concerned with the pace we want to move at for our own needs for recruiting and making sure we get a face on the program as soon as possible,” Thomas said after returning to Cincinnati on Thursday night. I was also told by a source that Pat Narduzzi interviewed for three hours on Wednesday.
