Pirates at Reds (7/29 - 7/31)

Featured Replies

Not a single bloody nose.

Never forget that Major League Baseball is big business, with business being the focal point. If they have to fabricate this "Bad Blood" rivalry to sell seats, then that's what it takes.

Same Bengals/Pittsburgh Steelers, and formerly Reds/Cardinals.

How many more series do these (Reds/Pirates) play???

Perceptions of bad blood sells tickets.

Cardinals had a catcher that suffered a major concussion and basically finished off his career. There were players spiked and injured during their brawl.

I can only imagine how many conspiracy theories you must come up with on a daily basis.

I was thinking the same thing.

Reds will trade another starting pitcher today, probably Roark or maybe Wood.

Can the umpires start the game with a warning to both sides? If so, do they? You'd hope cooler heads would prevail, but in this instance, with it being the Pirates, I'm not so sure.

I say this is exactly what they will do.

If they are definitely trading one of those guys today, I'd start the one about to be traded and tell him to hit the first batter right in the side! Then bring in the real starter to finish the game.

Winker with the first pitch thrown to him goes opposite field for a homer. Reds up 1-0.

They have six starters, right. One has to go.

Suarez turns on one and deposits into the left field seats. Two-run shot makes the leads 3-0. Umps reviewing it to see if fan leaned over to get it, but looks like it should stand to me.

VanMeter says his favorite position is second base. Does this look bad for Scooter resigning?

All this Brawl/Bad Blood stuff is is an attempt to generate interest and sell tickets to the remaining Reds-Pirates games. Two teams going nowhere need to generate some interest to get fans into seats. Seems like a few years back it was St. Louis who we hated.

Professional baseball players don't hate each other. They have careers which they look to maximize and squeeze the last nickle out of, and actually have mutual respect for each other. If it takes the appearance of "Bad Blood" to generate interest than so be it. Sad it has come to this.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid.

It may be time for another fishing trip.

Yes. I'll be shocked if the Reds sign Scooter to an extension. I hope they sign Jose Iglesias though.

I agree, but if VanMeter plays second who will be the other outfielder? Will they finally let Ervin start?

Winker HBP, on an 0-2 pitch, with 2 outs and 2 on. Umps made a good call in not making an ejection and/or warning, I think. But Hurdle removing him anyway. Reds have bases loaded, up 3-0.
