AAA Boys State Track Meet Results:

Was controversy on last event, the 4X400 relay, Scott County coached filed a complaint that a St.X runner ran into a Scott County runner. Unlike the KY Derby, there is no video review, and KHSAA did not change the result. Had St.X been DQ’d Scott County would have been champs.

This is St.X’s 11th title and first since 2003.

Looks like Langston Jackson of Henry Clay absolutely shattered the state record in the 100 with a 10.23. That's just .08 from the national HS record. Just for kicks, set a new state record in the 200 at 20.73, shaving more than 2/10 off of James Quick's record.

 

Not to mention helping HC to titles in the 4X100 and the 4X200.

We had some outstanding female performances worthy of the history books also.

 

In 2A, Paducah Tilghman's Valesha Watson won the triple crown (100, 200, 400) for the second straight year. She also finished with 4 State Titles in the 100 meters in her time at Tilghman.

 

In 3A, Graves County's Sophie Galloway won the long jump and triple jump while setting state records on back to back jumps and also won the 100 hurdles. She won the long and triple jump last year as a Freshman as well.

 

There were many great performances on the boys and girls sides. Quite a few records broken. There is an abundance of young talent all over the state.

 

The next several years look to be promising all over the Bluegrass.

That 10.23 is an eye popping time. He shaved nearly .2 off of the previous record. He didn't lower the record in small increments, he completely blew it away. That reminds me of Usain Bolt's record setting 9.58 that obliterated the old record.

Henry Clay finished 4th with 40 points.

In 3A a nice showing by the "11th Region" schools as they had four finishers in the top 6.

Congrats to St. X on their championship.

Mercer girls set a new state record in the 4x400 for 2A with a 3:56.07.

 

This girls team finished the year undefeated. Very difficult to do. All the girls return next year too. Exciting time in Harrodsburg!

There were some crazy good performances at the state meet. It's a shame that some of the 3A sprint records may not stand because of 'wind-aided' status, which I think is one of the dumbest reasons for a record not to count. Guy from Henry Clay was motoring.

 

In 1A, UHA's Isiah Pantiere (Louisville bound) was a false start in the 100 meters away from sweeping the 100, 200, and 400.

 

Boyle County was impressive in 2A. So was the Mercer County crowd.

 

Graves County's Sophie Galloway is one of the best female athletes to come out of Region 1 and she is just a sophomore. She finished in fifth place in the 3A team total by herself.

 

Rain was an issue once again. Some were saying they could have held out a little longer and ran the final 1600-meter relay races in 2A Friday to keep schools from deciding whether to go home or come back Saturday morning. Of course, it doesn't affect triangle schools so the call was made early.

 

The number of state records that continue to fall show just how freakishly athletic kids are these days.

Congrats to Frederick Douglass boys on placing 5th overall in only their 2nd season.
