November 24, 200619 yr Haven't Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Indiana, etc., etc., all picked up losses through their first four games? Try some perspective. Some of you folks need to calm down; UK was beaten by two good teams. :thumb: Excactly hardball, nice point. I think that a lot of peope that call themselves UK fans do so just to post negative comments. I have frustrations as well as anyone does but negativity breeds negatrivity.
November 24, 200619 yr Mark Few is not interested nor is Jay Wright. We all know Billy D. would not take this job. Don't be narrow-minded enough to think every coach would crawl to Kentucky (as Eddie Sutton said he would). Just curious as to how you know these guys would not be interested? Where are you getting your inside information. Like em, or not, UK haters need to understand that the UK job is one of the premier jobs in the business. I would be shocked if any of the above declined the job, if offered.
November 24, 200619 yr I dont think Tubby will stop being UK's head coach until he decides to leave. We would have to have a poor season this year and another one next year IMO. I hope the next coach will be John Pelphrey. Hopefully he will get another bigger job and build his resume up.
November 24, 200619 yr Since when do final fours matter?? Kentucky has gone through TWO periods of TWENTY years without a national championship. Thats what Kentucky plays for right?? Championships?? not just Final Fours? Unless something is blocking your knowledge, you have to reach the Final Four before you can win a National Championship. So yes we do play for Championships, and so far Tubby cannot even get us in position to win one.

Pelphrey is given serious consideration. He is a class act and has learned his game from some of the best in the business.

If I am not mistaken the Cats won the national chapionship that year :sssh: and please don't come back with "it was Ptino's team", I did not see "Tricky Ricky" on the bench UK bench during any of those games. Seems to me that something is blocking your knowledge.

Let me guess, a couple elite 8's, some 20 win seasons in a very weak SEC in which we still get blown out by teams such as Kansas and UNC in which we used to be on the same level as. Or since 98' does he have the longest droughts in between Final Fours in Kentucky history. Look, I've said my peace once, and I have had to listen to posters ramarks about not being a true Kentucky fan. Listen, regardless of winning 5 games a year or a National Championship I still will be routing for Kentucky as much as the next guy. However, I'm not going to be like those who settle for the decline of a once prestigious program when I know we can get much more. Why should we have to settle for average? If I wanted to cheer an average team I would like Georgia Tech, West Virginia, or some other scrub-lick team........But no....I am a KENTUCKY fan, and Kentucky basketball was, is, should be about tradtion, be about being an elite program, and about ruling the ranks of College basketball like it always has. Not struggling to be in the top 25. Not settling for being an 8 or 9 seed in the tourney, not losing in the second round every year, not losing on recruits in which we should land, not longer being feared by the opposition, and more importantly not being Kentucky anymore. Say what you want, so what you may. Call me selfish, I do not care. In my mind I am one of the biggest Kentucky fan's they are because instead of settling for being a second tier team, I ache to once again be on the level that our name was built on. I strive for the Kentucky team I used to know, and when this doesn't happen, and we continue to backslide into mediocrity I ache and hurt inside instead of saying its okay Tubby is the man anyway. This is a true fan, IMO, but if those still wan't to settle for average, then average is what you will get.
November 24, 200619 yr While we're at it, why don't we speculate who will be the next UK coach after the next one. Seems to be that's all alot of you UK fans know what to do. I'm a diehard and hate losing just as much as you. But your complaining (besides the fact that Mitch and Tubby could care less what you say) only makes UK look bad to the general public. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem and complaining sure as heck ain't a solution.

I agree 100%...However, there is always going to be that small amount of people who just don't get it, but think they know it all. More than likely, they haven't been happy since the day Tubby was announced the Head Coach.

I haven't always been like this. But years of doing nothing has changed my mind. I will be happy just cheering for nobody and only caring that Duke or UNC doesn't win it all. Sure Tubby was the coach in '98. Big deal. Not one player that he has recruited played in a final four. The fact that Tayshawn Prince didn't get to play in one was a disgrace, to me, after what he meant to Kentucky. I don't understand how a lot of Tubby's players either in up in trouble, or kicked off the team, or leave the team and everybody thinks that everything in Kentucky-land is all roses and sunshine. I just don't see it. I think Pitino would've been insulted by a 10 loss season, much less ever how many we've had over the past 5 or 6 years. He wouldn't have let it happen. Am I the only one that finds it strange that Tubby's teams at Tulsa and Georgia did the exact same thing as UK does now? A nice number of regular season wins, not really beating anybody ranked ahead of them and then an early tournament exit. That might work at those schools, but UK fans expect more than that.

This post and the one made by dolamite are the only ones to me that sound right. I agree with both of these posts in every letter and until UK can get back to the level of being an "elite" basketball program, I will have a hard time rooting for another 10-loss season. And please dont say that I am not a TRUE UK fan because I agree with the above posts because if anyone really knew me and saw my room that would know that I bleed blue, I just dont support being mediocre.

If you were a true Kentucky fan you would pull for them regardless of who was the coach. I will continue to support Tubby Smith until he or the administration decide to go in a different direction. One problem I see with so many fans is as soon as we lose a game or 2, which everyone in college basketball will do, people act like the season is a lost cause and that we should go ahead and run all of our coaches and players out of town. This may not be our year. But I see 2 things that if they happen for us next year I see UK as a top 5 team. 1) Morris stays for his senior year 2) Patterson comes to UK. If those 2 things happen, with this freshmen class a long with Bradley and Crawford then I see us being very good in the future. This year the team will steadily get better and we will be better than last year.
November 24, 200619 yr Not trying to be smart but just want your thought, but what makes you think Patterson will come to UK?

But I haven't really liked Tubby since about 2000 or so. It's the same thing every year. 1 Final Four 8 years ago. George Mason has the same number of Final Fours in that span as we do. UConn has won 2 titles in that span. Florida and Michigan St both have titles and multiple FF appearances since then. They've slipped and become just an average team. You can talk about the fresmen and possible recruits, but the same thing was said a few years ago when 3 All-Americans commited to UK and nothing changed. Just more 10 loss seasons. I'm a big Nebraska football fan. 2 years ago they went 5-6 and missed out on a bowl game for the first time in like 45 years. I didn't start disliking them then or start yelling "kill Callahan!!" So don't say that I'm one of those that start complaining after a couple of losses. I understand everybody's wanting UK to be better. Trust me, I do to. But it's just not going to happen. Not as long as he's there.
