So the yearly question, who leaves UK?

Featured Replies

Hagans seems like he will be in a similar situation as Isaiah Briscoe or Quads Green. With Maxey coming in, and Coach Cal having a reputation of playing the best player regardless of class, I’m afraid he might lose his starting job and be stuck coming off the bench when he has the talent to be a starter, but likely won’t get drafted should he choose to go this year. Travis is obviously gone regardless of what he does next, Washington and Johnson are about 90% gone, and Herro seems like a 50/50 at this point.

I think he will play Maxey off the ball. Assuming Herro leaves, it probably will be Hagans and Maxey in the back court.

I think they all stay. If one leaves, it's Johnson.

I’d love to hear your rationale for this...

NBAdraft.net 2019 Mock draft has:

Johnson #12

Hagans #30

Washington #35

No Herro on the board.

ESPN has Johnson, Washington, Herro in the 1st round and Hagans just out of the 2nd round.

Has that been updated or is that before the year even started? Especially Washington at 35?

So that leaves Quickly as a backup again, right? Wonder if he would accept that role?

Washington, Johnson, Herro and Richards. One or two may test the waters but return for next season. All depends on what info they receive from the NBA after try outs. Should they receive a first round projection then imo, they leave.

That is as of March 27th.

Few things. One, you can find mock drafts that reflect many variations. Besides the top of the boards, these things do not come to fruition for a few weeks. Secondly, PJ size will have him playing the SF or small PF at the next level. He is not going to be down on the blocks like he is now.

I just don't see Herro as a first rounder. He ain't there... yet. He can be but not now.

The thing everyone has to keep in mind about the NBA draft is the NBA cares about what you can be much, much, much more than what you are right now. They aren't concerned if you are NBA ready. They draft talent and what they think you can be.

That's the only way I see a team drafting him. Even though I think he's destined for the developmental league.

The best hope UK fans have for Herro staying is if he thinks one more year at UK would make him a definite lottery pick.

Again, with the G-League. People realize about half of first found draftees spend time in the G-League now, right? Most players do not come in from day one averaging 15 ppg. It shouldn't carry the negative stigma that it does. It is an avenue, even for first rounders, to refine their game so that they can be regular contributor on the big stage.

Man, if that happened, we’d be looking at another 2015 type team.

I meant all stay, excluding PJ.

I think some people have this big misconception that first round picks mean cant miss picks. Shoot most first round picks rarely even play much their rookie year, and are in the G league. Herro as someone mentioned is going to be looked at what he can possibly be. Especially teams picking in the 20s. They know if he leaves now they may be getting a guy they would have no shot at the next year if he stays because his stock may move him up to a lottery pick if he stays. So yes teams in the 20s probably would love to get Herro because of what he may become.

It honestly depends what Herro wants his legacy to be. He can get a guanrteed contract and have a few million in the bank if he leaves next year by getting paid to play basketball, but most likely never be a star. Or he could come back and possibly be a star and an All American with hopefully a chance to win a title. While it's easy for us to think go for the glory of being the man one more year in college. It's hard for anyone to turn down millions and risk injury.
