As far as Cameron Indoor. The students don't actually completely circle the court, they get three sides. The side that the camera is on, is reserved for season ticket holders, who are alumni of the school. I would be willing to bet that UK allots more total student tickets than Duke.

Im sure they do allot more at UK just because Rupp is a lot bigger than Cameron. Its just looks like more students at Duke games because the camera angles they show all you see is the students.

First off I am a student at UK and I have eruption zone tickets to the first four games. After two of these games I have seen nothing but a bunch of old farts sitting on their rears during all parts of the game. When the opposing team is shooting free throws at the goal opposite of the erruption zone you will be lucky to see five of the old farts muster up enough energy to yell at the player, and you are kidding your self if you expect them to even think about waving their arms in the air. Rupp is dead, and it has virtually no impact on the opposing team and I can't stand it.

 

Solution: like most of you have been saying expand the student section and make it closer to the court. There is only 600 erruption zone tickets available. That's 2% of the total tickets offered and that is a joke. I don't know how many are available at Cameron Indoor, but I guarantee its more than that. I don't see any of this happening, but I will keep praying that it does. I will be doing my part during the game though. Look for some crazy kid decked out in a crazier outfit in the front row of the erruption zone in the upcoming games...... Especially Indiana.

The issue isn't about filling the seats. It's about the millions of dollars a year that those people sitting in the lower level give to the school. Take away our seats and you lose the money. Lose the money and you lose the program.

If the school takes away their tickets, telling them to donate THEIR money, so they can sit in the rafters, it will not happen. That money will dissapear, I promise you that. But I'll tell you this, IF the day came that they moved us to the rafters just so they could move the upper level people to the floor, the University would most likely lose money, in every sport. It's absurd that some of you think the solution to making Rupp a more intimidating place is to move the lower level people to the upper level and vice versa. UK doesn't win 90% of their home games because Rupp is "dead." Get over it. If your a true fan you'll show up and support the cats wherever you sit. But don't expect the people who sit in the lower level to just give up their seats so the so called 'younger crowd' can sit there.

So the 2% of total tickets offered to the students is indeed a JOKE, because it isn't true, and yes, Rupp allots more student tickets than Cameron, that's a fact. If you want sports progams at a state university to survive, you have to rely on cash, and it doesn't come from the students.

Let me make sure you and everyone else understand, at no time did I use that word to describe anyone and please don't credit me with using them, if I didn't.

 

Another thing, if you're only 23 you can't recall all the changes which have gone on at RUPP and I believe, the fans would still support this program, fill the seats and sit at any level. For any that would leave, there are thousands waiting to acquire those seats. You may want to visit other college campuses, where the student body is located more closely to the floor, before offering our opinions are absurd.

 

Moving people would cause UK to lose money in other sports, is absurd as you imply on your part. The entire premise of this thread, is to discuss and offer ways, methods or options, to remove the "non-cheering" fans from being so close to the action and replacing them with more "younger and energetic" fans.

 

One final thought, just because a patron buys or has season tickets in the lower level, certainly does not make them a fan. It takes more than sitting in a chair and standing up, when the person in front or around does.

You are wrong if you think they would lose money. Yeah maybe some people of these people will stop with their season tickets, but I guarntee there will be someone right behind them who will purchase those season tickets right back.

 

With the way kids are today, Rupp arena is just not a place that would really be intimidating for kids to play in. They might come to the game a little intimidated since its UK, but after the game is going they wont be at all, because they would have been at other arenas and realize that this place is not an intimiadating place at all. Other places you have fans down by the court yelling all game, no matter what is going on for the most part. While at UK the only time people besides the students yell is when UK is on a big run. Then at the end of the game when teams are shooting crucial free throws we have nothing on that side of the court to really try to get in their heads to help make them miss it.

 

If we want Rupp arena to be a intimidating place to play again, we have to bring more students down to the lower section. It would be the best if UK could have the student section on atleast 3 sides of the court, but if anything they should atleast put another erupption zone behind the other basket, so this way it still will get the place louder, and would actually have people behind the basket yelling at the other team at the end of the game...

Wow, I wouldnt go out on a limb there or anything. Cameron's capacity is 9314. Rupp's is over 23,000. It would be absurd if they didnt have more student tickets. I would say there are more students around the court than Rupp has in the E-Zone. Think about what we have in one end zone, they probably have more around 3 sides of the floor. Now my question for you is, Is this about winning and providing a favorable, winning environment, or is it about making a little extra money and not caring really about winning, but keeping a small percentage of UK fans happy b/c they dont have to move back 5 rows? That is my proposal. Take the fans and move them back about 5 rows or whatever that very lowest level is in Rupp Arena on the sides. Make that a standing room area like the E-Zone and they pack a lot more students in there and can probably sell at least one section of the lower arena student tickets to the general public. What is so bad about that?

Take away that money and the tons and tons of UK fans all over the nation wont matter at all and you will lose the program because a small percentage decided not to pay for some seats. Wow, I didnt know the couple thousand people were that powerful.

UK's administration wouldn't dare take away season ticket holders lower arena seats. The student section for UK basketball games is pretty pathetic and is due to the limited area for students.

 

The only time Rupp Arena has rowdy crowds is during the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen.
