An apology from Mark Wehry CovCath Internet Announcer

Featured Replies

For what it's worth this is a classy, good hearted guy who apparantly got caught up in the moment. To give you an example speaking from personal experience Mark makes calls to injured guys to check on them and has also made congratulatory calls to kids homes to tell them good game. Most of these kids have never met Mark and think it's pretty cool when the guy from the Internet calls

I honestly don't believe that anyone got their feelings hurt over the statement. Was it a big deal...no. Was it insulting...no. Did it give us JC fans a chance to poke a little fun at Mr. Wehry's expense...yes. But it's all in good fun. I truly hope that he understands that no one here in Johnsonville is upset. We are looking forward to the game and I hope I get the opportunity to meet Mr. Wehry and thank him for the fun he has afforded me.

OMG....I was on the floor rolling over that avatar. Classic!!

Hats off to the 99.9% of the people on here that realize this is a whole lot about nothing. I've got family in Beattyville. They'll be the first to tell you they're in the middle of nowhere so why should anyone in EKY be offended when they're off the beaten path? Its part of their community pride.

I thought it was appropriate. :thumb:

I was talking with Mark and Jason about 45 minutes before kickoff, commiserating with them, actually, over their location from where they had to call the game. Even though they had a TERRIBLE location from which to see, they were all smiles, making the best of a bad situation.

Mark, apparently, has never asked me, where my accent is from. My mom, as well as my brother, and my in-laws, live in Prestonsburg. Heck, I used to live next door to oneijoe. I have a strong "mountain" resume. Lived 10 years in Hazard, grew up in and graduated from Middlesboro, married in Pburg, lived in Inez and Louisa before moving to NKY.

Mark and Jason do a fine job for CovCath, IMO, they are allowed to be "homers"....it is CCH internet. They were doing what we were supposed to be doing, concentrating on the current opponent and not looking ahead. Hats off to Mark for the apology. He just got the "regional war" started on BGP on Friday night instead of Saturday afternoon.

Don't forget it!

Did you push for the NCAA to change Miami (OH)'s nickname from "Redskins" to "Redhawks" too?

I for one will be a Redskin for life, whatever my Oxford school calls itself!

"ONEIJOE'S COOKING JOHNSONVILLE BRATTS...johnsonville bratts..."

I disagree with Cshs81, I think an apology was most certainly needed...and hat's off to Mr. Wehry for doing so. Not knowing a city's name is one thing, referring to them as being in the "middle of nowhere" was way over the line.

Tip of the hat Mr. Wehry for having the class to apologize, and not letting a lot of time pass before doing so. Nice move!

Covington Catholic prides itself on being a program of class, and while Mr. Wehry's off-the-cuff comments may not have represented that, his apology most assuredly did!

Further, thanks to Theoldguy for passing it along.

I agree. I think making a statement like that is just so offensive. It's just not right. Just think of the people offended. This definately makes it all better. Oh by the way, I can't wait till next year so that just about every team makes the playoffs and there will be six champions. Then everybody can feel good. Because isn't that what it's really about, felling good. Don't want to hurt anyones "feelings".

JC might even be able to claim one next year. I don't think they will this year but will put up a good effort though. Wait a minute won't they be in 5A next year. UH OH!!! DEJA VU! Just different NKY power.:D
