I went to the first game at the new field. The pictures don't do it justice. It is far beyond what I expected.

Dimensions are:

Left field 325 feet with 8 ' fence

Left center 368 feet with 8' fence

Center 385 feet with 8 ' fence

Right center 368 feet with 8' fence

Right 310 feet with 12 ' fence

 

The stadium seats 500 with backs on all seats. It has a berm area down the left field line with space for lawn chair seating. Double batting cages with artificial surface. Off-field bullpens connected to dugouts. Thanks go out to the Trinity administration, the donors, the City of St Mathews and St Mathews Little League.

Those demensions seem to favor hitters. It’s certainly a great facility.

You are correct. I've been to the Cal Ripkin complex in Myrtle Beach and the same is true. It can spoil your infielders.

 

They have the best recipe I've seen. Mound and home plate are dirt and everything else is turf. I love JPat, but I think the value gained by dirt home plate greatly exceeds the minimal extra upkeep. I've never talked to anyone that likes the turf mounds (like at Florence Freedom), but they minimize upkeep and increase likelihood of playing.

Images I saw look like all turf except the pitcher's mound. The all turf baseball field seems to be catching on. The first one I saw was the Florence Freedom minor league field. Beechwood now has all turf baseball (including the pitcher's mound). What other schools have gone all turf for baseball?

I think the field that Holmes uses in Covington is all turf.
