A Round of Observations from UK Football/General

Featured Replies

1. Have been in the canoe for a long while now. My lifejacket is still on...but I unbuckled the top latch. I'm aiding people in pulling them into the canoe each day.

2. Kentucky offense is clicking...still would like to see more Terrell Bankhead as lead blocking back. Cats are effective out of the I or off set I on short yardage misdirection with Bankhead knocking people around

3. Woodson has poise.

4. Recievers are making catches...happy for Smith and Ford...How 'bout David Jones lately? Great 2 catches the other day...solid...would love to see him on a reverse in a key situation

5. Defensive line is playing hearts out....

6. Linebackers still have trouble finding people and making plays in the flat but overall so-so. Woodyard and Kelley have been fine.

7. Masthay injury serious????

8. 3 headed RB monster the Cats have. Offesive line is patch work I know, but could pass protect better...solid on run blocking....key is McCutcheon.

9. 73 Freshman and Sophomores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. Does any other team in I A football with a record comparable to UK have as many Freshman/Sophomore contributors????

11. Fans need to support the Cats and come to the game...

12. Rich has a plan

13. Randy Sanders is a difference maker IMO

14. THE KENTUCKY BAND sucks something fierce....had to throw that in. Anybody complaining to the University on how bad they are???? They are a fraud.

15. Biggest Improvements: Offensive blocking, right checks at the line by Sanders and Woodson...Patience, continuity in offense. Recruiting....Rich can recruuit, Special teams have improved....Turnover margin...

16. Biggest Challenges: Depth on both lines, open field tackling, finding the football defensively....giving up 3rd and longs..

I like it. I've felt that Brooks has a plan and has been making progress...I'm just glad they've stayed healthy so they could show it on the field. Things are turned in the right direction for UK. If the young guys can mature and get it done and if Brooks can keep recruiting well...

Uk has played the second most true freshmen this year of any D-1 school

The best thing about the young players is they come back next year with a year's experience under their belts.

UK needs to get to the point where we can redshirt most of those kids. I am truly excited about UK Football next year.

Undoubtedly true, but when you have only 6 recruited seniors on the roster, there isn't much redshirting you can do.

I haven't watched the last couple of games but my impression is that Micah is not getting on the field very much outside of special teams. Am I correct?

NETS had some very good observations.

I think Brooks and Phillips were wise to use that in their recruiting pitches. Young guys will get an opportunity to play if they show they can help the team. They don't seem to care if someone is a frosh or a senior, ... they want kids to make plays.

I think that the future looks very bright and in hindsight, having a more mature (ok, older) coach like Brooks helped. Why? He had the patience and understanding to realize that this wasn't an overnight fix and was willing to stay the course and take the heat. He believes in his players and the bottom line (and this is straight from players mouths) they believe in him.

The only thing that upsets me at all right now is the few remaining 'Now we are gonna be stuck with Brooks for a few more years'. I don't get it? Is it because you can't admit you were wrong? Is it that he doesn't have the bubbly media friendly personality many coaches have? Is it because he couldn't win right away with a program heading towards rock bottom? I just don't get it. My comments prior to the season were that we had to see progress this season and next season as it was only fair to give Brooks that opportunity. With a very young team, he has the Cats seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Color this True Blue fan happy! :thumb:

They haven't used him in the dime or gator packages the past few weeks and have run those packages more based on what they expected from the opposition. I think Micah is still learning but he will be a special player for the Cats before he graduates. Mark it down. I was told that he and Cessna (grayshirted due to knee surgery and recovery from HS) were the strongest freshmen in this year's recruiting class. Both LBs! While we complain about the defense and the yards they are giving up, they gave up far fewer points to UGA then #5 ranked Auburn.

So I'm still the only one who thinks that we might see him at DE due to the LBs in front of him?

If he wants to see the field next year, that is where he may end up.

I went to the UK/Georgia game and noticed that as well. As an alum, it was disappointing. Even when our football was terrible, you always got a good halftime show. When they were spelling out "Kentucky" before the game, I was halfway up the upper deck and couldn't even hear them. It seemed like there weren't as many performers as in the past.

I'm sure this is the wrong forum for this post, put its the first I had seen on the topic.

I like your #4 about David Jones I would love to see him run some plays like Florida does with there Reverse.
