LABS may be the most knowledgeable and reliable poster on BGP. Maybe you should be booted off for questioning his knowledge and motives.

If this is true, quite foolish, IMO. Ok, everyone understands the point you're trying to prove, but like someone said earlier, who is really being hurt from this, the kids, or UofL?

When a school repeatedly pulls scholarship offers and apparently has some other questionable dealings with kids, their reputation takes a beating and coaches/players/parents become a little harder to reach. This is not news and happens all over the place. The U of L supporters don't want to admit that their precious Cards may not have a coaching staff with the integrity and character that Brooks' seems to have (which is in keeping with the pattern considering the previous regime that was there). UK fans get tired of hearing how great the program is and how much better it is, etc, etc. The fact is, UK is and has been a basketball school since the 40's. Also, it's much more difficult to build a program in the SEC than it was for the Cards to do so in Conference USA.

Im pretty sure most, if not all, of the UL supporters have said that the timing of the Durham incident was not the best....

I'm sure it does happen everywhere, but probably not as often in states with the limited number of Division 1 athletes that Kentucky has. Pair that with the fact that there is only two major football teams in the state, and you could see why high school coaches might help to "steer" a student athlete to one school or away from another.

 

Are high school coaches doing this because of this incident? Probably not. Does it help UL's in-state recruiting? Probably not.

 

Remember, Hal Mumme created a division between himself and the state's HS coaches through incidences less inflammatory than this...

 

Well, except for that whole Claude Basset money thing. That probably made some in-state coaches jealous....

If there is anyone on this site whose word is usually on the money, then its LABS. I have not read where LABS thinks its a smart idea, just that it might be happening. What a case of shooting the messenger!

Durham committed to Louisville before the season, but the Cards called the 6-foot-5, 300-pound senior on Saturday to tell him they were pulling their scholarship offer. "I guess it's legal but it's sure not ethical," Larkey said. "It could make some kids leery about verbally committing to Louisville in the future, and for good reason." Larkey said UK assistant Steve Ortmayer heard the news and called him to ask about Durham. "UK has been great in keeping up with Brad. I would think the Brad Durham case serves up a warning to high school coaches and kids in Kentucky being recruited by U of L to proceed with caution.

It depends on what level of recruit you are, I guess.
