October 10, 20197 yr Not normally my thing, but it's holding my attention despite the main character being deliberately unlikable. I'm attending a lecture by the author at the Mercantile Library next week. May as well read the book. We'll see if it goes where I think it's going. Still a chance it turns out to be a decent book.
October 11, 20197 yr GCHS, I will be curious to hear what you think of this book. I tried to read it, and only got about halfway through it before I hurled it into the trash can. I'm not sure why. Give us your take on it when you finish.

Give us your take on it when you finish. I finished it a few weeks ago. I really liked it, although it was fairly lengthy. I enjoyed the historical aspect more than football. It was a typical western Pennsylvania story (read Striking Gridiron about Braddock, Pennsylvania - which was better) but the collapse of the industrial economy is something I’m fascinated by. What about it turned you off?
October 12, 20197 yr I read KY novelist, CC Payne’s “The Thing About Leftovers” twice within the last month. Met the author and got to ask some questions about her life and the process of writing. Very, very good stuff if you’re in to the life of a middle school girl whose parents divorced.

What about it turned you off? Too much background and too much history, which seemed to be repeated over and over again. It is amazing though the names and numbers of NFL players this area produced.
