December 31, 20187 yr After just 2 seasons with a record of 15-10 (8-5, 7-5). Wow. Somebody smoking crack at the Houston Chronicle says Dana Holgorsen is a candidate for the job.
December 31, 20187 yr Author I take that the crack comment back. Houston is going after Holgorsen and Dana is talking to them.
December 31, 20187 yr Only way Holgerson would take the UH job is if he has some insider information about conferences realignment. Nothing else makes sense to me.
January 1, 20197 yr I was surprised at Holgerson too but after thinking about it for a minute, I think these are the selling points: -Where would you rather live? Morgantown, WV or Houston, TX? -There are a ridiculous amount of D-1 recruits within a 45 minute drive (around 100). How many are that close to Morgantown? I'm guessing a handful a most. -The main goal is to get to the Final 4. (Here's where they have to really put on the smoke and mirrors but I don't think it's too far of a stretch.) WV has to compete against much tougher competition overall to go undefeated (which is essentially what you have to do). You can get the same talent here "in your system" and win big. -Can the American get a team in the Final 4? UC in the past would make a case for it being possible; UCF presently would make a case against that BUT the big argument against them is their schedule and Houston has a least 1 P5 school on their schedule every year and has Oklahoma and Washington State on it next year. Going 13-0 with wins over Oklahoma, Washington State, UCF, and then the rest of the American gets you in the Final Four.
January 1, 20197 yr Hell will freeze over before a non power 5 conference team not named Notre Dame makes the final 4...if it goes to 8, then there is a chance but not as long as it stays at 4.
January 1, 20197 yr Hell will freeze over before a non power 5 conference team not named Notre Dame makes the final 4...if it goes to 8, then there is a chance but not as long as it stays at 4. Look at Houston's schdule next year. If they went undefeated, you don't think they would have a shot?
January 1, 20197 yr Look at Houston's schdule next year. If they went undefeated, you don't think they would have a shot? Anything is possible I guess but I don't think UH will beat OK at OK in the first game and even if UH went undefeated, it still probably doesn't get in. I actually would like to see them go undefeated just to create some havoc in the process...
January 1, 20197 yr -Where would you rather live? Morgantown, WV or Houston, TX? Morgantown and it's not close! :lol2: Houston is just a miserable, hot, sticky, nasty place.
January 1, 20197 yr Morgantown and it's not close! :lol2: Houston is just a miserable, hot, sticky, nasty place. Ok, coach. Drop that one. What about the recruits argument?:lol2:
January 1, 20197 yr Ok, coach. Drop that one. What about the recruits argument?:lol2: Yeah Houston wins the recruiting battle...but why have they never been a power with all of those recruits in their backyard? Houston "should" be a great job...but it has never really been one.
January 1, 20197 yr Holgerson already owns a home in Houston and is tight with Tilman Fretatta from his previous stint there. Deal is pretty much done unless something unexpected pops up...
January 1, 20197 yr Only way Holgerson would take the UH job is if he has some insider information about conferences realignment. Nothing else makes sense to me. He will be making more money at Houston.
January 2, 20197 yr Yeah Houston wins the recruiting battle...but why have they never been a power with all of those recruits in their backyard? Houston "should" be a great job...but it has never really been one. Every coach thinks he is the one that can turn it around.
