So much for not being able to beat a good team twice. This game could of got a lot uglier too.

Great game CCH! You played an awesome game and the best team won!

Good luck to the Bluebirds seniors, they gave the Highlands fans a lot to cheer for this season.

This game could have been a lot worse. Congratulations to highlands though, i feel your pain about going home early, but there is always next year. Anybody know how the sportsmanship played out?? I know in the Jv game people were ejected.....

The sportsmanship seemed pretty well.

So much for Highlands being able to stop the CCH weapons, and just to clear things up Drew Ellison was on the sidelines but the ball boys didn't get the chance to get in. Sorry ball boys

A well deserved congratulation to both teams on a very exciting game. I was very impressed by the sportsmanship displayed throughout today’s game on both sides.

Cov Cath is on a mission and is focused to climb the ladder one game at a time.

On another note I happen to over hear a guy leaving Cov. Cath. this afternoon saying “JOHN RODENBURG” - Dale Mueller's “Worst Night Mare”. I thought to myself and probably the “Team from Fort Thomas” as well.

CovCath glides to victory

Two weeks after staging one of the most dramatic wins in program history, Covington Catholic saved the drama.

The Colonels beat rival Highlands 25-15 for a district title and the right to play in the Class AAA state quarterfinals. The victory came 15 days after CovCath upset Highlands on a last-second touchdown pass. Unlike in that game, the Colonels never trailed and largely controlled the tempo of the game Saturday at Wooten Field. It was a welcome development for a program that has played second-fiddle to the Bluebirds for most of the last decade.

A few notes:

Highlands punters (and for that matter most of their special teams) struggled today.

CCH's kicker had his worst game of the year, but then again the expectations on him are ridiculous. I'm sure he will bounce right back.

CovCath had so many oppurtunities to put this game away and didn't....if they want to win state they need to learn how to do that- teams will come back, as evidenced by LexCath's comeback from 35-7 against Franklin (correct me if I'm wrong).

Peter Sutton had an awesome game, he made a lot of tackles and of course had that spectacular touchdown.

Brandon Brown, once again, proved that he is the best football player in Northern Kentucky.

Blesser had another solid game, seemed to only miss two or three times.

You must be so proud!

Not much doubt about who the better team was. All the more impressive considering the Colonels played without Joe C.

I also thought the Highlands play calling was predictable.

CovCath needs to put this win over a 7 - 5 team behind them and get ready for the defending state champions.

While I enjoyed watching CovCath beating the Team from Ft. Thomas twice this season, I just wish some of our fans would realize that it has been since 1994 that we have beaten the Team from Ft. Thomas twice. Nobody's like a sore lossier, but I hate a poor winner too....

The Team from Ft. Thomas might have been a 7-5 team this year, but if they played in a different district, they wouldn't have gone down so soon.... So lighten up CovCath fans, enjoy the victory, don't put down the team from Ft. Thomas as for far too many years, it has been us who were looking from the outside in.

Fans of the Team from Ft. Thomas, I just hope you root us on next week, I know over the years when you knocked CovCath out, we or at least I rooted you on.......

See you all next year....it should be fun again....

3A State Champions-CCH

Bottom line, CCH made plays and HHS didn't. Whether it was offense, defense or special teams. Good luck next week...

BTW, if CCH wins state this year has HHS won state or lost to the eventual state champion every year since Dale has been here?

Just something I was wondering...

I am as aware as anyone of how the rivalry has gone since 94 and especially how it has gone from 1998 forward.

Not sure how posting a team's record is putting that team down?
