Covington Catholic 25 Highlands 15

No doubt.

Back to the game, I'm surprised Dale didn't utilize the short passing game more. It seemed it was a screen to Kramer or a 35 yard pass down field. Where was the intermediate passing game? Did CovCath take it away or do the Birds not attempt those throws? Also, didn't see a lot of adjustments from Highlands after halftime. Thought they would do some things differently in the second half.

The CCH fans have class.

Can I interject some game discussion?

If so, shout out to #9 Pat Van Sant. I thought he made some clutch plays especially in the open field. His speed is a great asset and CCH is fortunate to have him back for 2 more seasons.

CCH did a great job of keeping Kramer in check in both games. However, that screen pass to the left that ended up going back to the right was fun to watch. He is so quick and then gets very fast after a cut.

What was the reason for not giving the ball to Conner on the counters?

It was very effective in the first meeting. Why would you not run that play

in the game or at least fake it one time?

To the Birds seniors best of luck in whatever, is next to come in your future. Keep your heads high, you gave all you had to give, and all is very proud of you. To the juniors remember the feeling and work harder, you guys are part of a WINNING PROGRAM with a STRONG TRADITION. Go Birds win state in 2007! :thumb:

This is true and the CCH kids overlooked the immaturity.

I think some of the HHS fans are wondering that also.

They did run the counter fake to Connor on the first play of the game. I just think as soon as the birds got down by 2 scores the game plan went out the window.

I think it could have been the fact that the CCH d-line was getting some good penetration and stuffing holes in the 2nd half. Running Kramer between the tackles is tough enough... he did squeeze through a few times but for the most part.. the CCH defense caused problems for the running game.

The screen passes were tough as Cecil has a nice arm but a bit of touch was needed on those particular passes.

I was not so unimpressed with the Birds 4th qtr passing game. They seemed to be giving Cecil time and he has a nice arm. I don't know why they don't utilize that style of passing in the 1st half of games. They only do it when they are trailing and have to put it in. Then the Defense basically drops 7 and your are done.

Does anyone know if Sam Flynn hit his record?

Also, I just wanted to say what a excellent job the CCH players did on Saturday. The defense really took it up a notch, when I thought they were doing great even before that. Very impressive, D! A big thanks to the O-Line for protecting my little brother again. :thumb: To the running backs and receivers..... terrific job!

And Pop....... keep your head high. How many high school kickers get upset because they missed a 50+ yard field goal? Not many, because they don't even get the chance to attempt it. You have a strong leg and accurate kicks, but when the wind is blowing it makes it very difficult, especially at those far distances. Another question.... How many high school coaches actually have the confidence to let the kicker attempt that 50+ yard field goal? Not many..... because they don't have you! :thumb:

Pop is the real deal.... but I think many of those attempts were field position punts. Anytime you get the ball at the 20 yrd line on a missed field goal.... it behooves you to try from wherever on the field. Especially when the defense is stopping the other team's offense. A couple of those almost made it... so they were close but they werent helping his percentages by throwing him out there each time. :D
