So apparently South Laurel has hired former Mercer County head coach, Chris Souder.

Not a rumor. Fact.

Yep just seen it after posting that. Was coming back to change the thread title. This is a big get for both parties. South Laurel is gonna be a force in the 13th if not the entire state and they got a legend leading the helm. Win win for both.

Definitely not a rumor. I was just reading the article too.

Why was the job open to begin with?

I am happy for Coach Souders that he found a job that he would want this soon. I’m not sure when he expected to coach again but it’s clear he wasn’t going to pass up a good opportunity to get back in to coaching. He will test this team’s mettle but they will be much stronger and better as a result. I am looking forward to following South Laurel this season.

Coach Walker resigned last week.

Any reason why he resigned?

Stepped down or relieved of duty due to allegations and an investigation of inappropriate activity with students/players.

If we want to discuss the former coach someone will need to start a thread in the Controversial Issues Forum, no more about him in this thread.

Coach Souder is a great fit for just about any program.

He’s a great hire. South Laurel is loaded with talent and they’ve made sure they got the right person to coach that talent. Two straight state titles is a nice resume.

He’s also coached summers with Kentucky Premier for several years, so he’s a year-round basketball guy. Loves the game and coaching it.
