Bucket list: Australian golf trip - 7 of World's Top 100 golf courses

Featured Replies

Leaving Thursday for a 10 day duffer's dream golf trip to Australia. My son (2 handicap and a true golf course snob) and I are playing 7 of the 2018 Golf Digests Top 100 World Courses. We are actually playing 12 rounds on these fabulous courses:

#3 - Royal Melbourne West

#11- Barnbougle Dunes

#13- Kingston Heath

#19- Royal Melbourne East

#24- Cape Wickham

#26- Barnbougle Lost Farm

#86- St. Andrews Beach

My 72 year old body will be challenged by trekking this many holes. My game (7 handicap) usually does not travel well to championship caliber courses. But, a trip like this with my son has got to be special. The pain of lots of strokes will be dwarfed by a duffer's bucket list venture. It's the journey, not necessarily the destination.

My son-in-law and his family are from the outskirts of Perth. Quite a ways away from the east coast.

Have fun!

So jealous! That will be a great trip! I’d love to see some pictures!

Have fun! That is certainly a dream trip.

Just watch out for that continent’s many dangerous critters (maybe I watch too many of those “72 Most Dangerous Animals” type shows, lol.)

I'm happy for you to have the change to experience this.

Congratulations!!! Enjoy the ride.

Crazy special info for Australian trip. Private course dress code restricts socks worn with shorts to white only (no logos visible) and must be above the ankle or higher. They actually send out do/don't pictures that are comical....white knee socks (ok), white calf height (ok), white below the ankle (asked to change or leave course).

Additionally, your golf equipment, shoes, towels, balls, etc. does not enter Australia if there is any dirt on them. Hope the sweat stain on my twice worn hat doesn't create a problem.

Wow!! Have a great time. This sounds like a great experience.

I'll buy you a new hat.

If rejected, I'll be messaging wire transfer instructions.

What a great father/son adventure! Hope you have a wonderful time.

I even have an English to Aussie translation t-shirt if you need it for your non-golfing activities. I broke it out last month when we got together with SIL’s family last month.

Ugh! 4 1/2 hours to LAX (in the bank). Now boarding for 16....16....I repeat 16 hour flight to Melbourne.

Took my daughter 31 hours total to get to Perth when she went.

Flight more brutal than even feared. Played #3, #13, and #86 so far. Courses are wonderful and as expected my game does not travel well. St. Andrews Beach was right off the plane and shot 89. Royal Melbourne West an 82, and Kingston Heath an 86. Only one set of tees out, all about 6,500 + yards. Too, much for an old man.
