Let's remember, the CCH offense had one drive where they marched down the field and scored.. That's it. The other two were a 10 and 15 yard field. Give the CCH D credit, they made the plays to get the short field, but to think CCH is going to just march down the field all game is a bit exaggerated. Yes, Jacob has a game under his belt, but so does the HHS D. I'm sure CCH will have a couple drives where the O looks really good, but I wouldn't count on it happening all night. Just like the last game, turnovers will determine who wins.

I don't think anyone is really questioning whether or not Cov Cath's offense struggled on October 12th, because they did. I think it was largely a systemic problem...the offensive line wasn't consistently getting a good push on running plays, they didn't keep pressure out of the backfield, the receivers had a hard time getting open and staying open, the quarterback wasn't at his best. I think Highlands' defense was also a big part of making all of that happen.

I'm glad to know that I have seen NUMEROUS games this season where Cov Cath did play better than that, though, and I think they will play better this week. I'm also glad that we have our offensive line and our offensive backfield back at 100%.

I also think we're going to see the home field advantage come into play again this week, as I think it did somewhat on October 12th. I'm also hoping it doesn't freakin' rain again.

Two of Jacob's first three passes in the regular season game were uncharacteristically off their mark. One was nearly an interception. There was another red-zone play for Cov Cath on the 1 or 2 yard line where the ball didn't end up anywhere near the intended receiver. One of the pass attempts late in the 3rd or early in the 4th was low and was batted down by a lineman. He just looked jittery in the backfield, and the CCH offensive line had a difficult time with pass and run blocking throughout the night. That only added to his looking jittery, I'm sure. They had to burn a timeout in the 3rd quarter because Jacob was mixed up as well. If I'm not mistaken, the one Highlands sack of the night was on a pass play that never came to fruition. Plus, yes, the weather was definitely a hindrance.

I don't say that to be tough on Caleb or to rag on him at all, because he's been nothing short of an outstanding sophomore starter for us. He was just having sophomore performance in the big game, so to speak. I'm confident that we'll see a much better performance out of him on Friday.

I’m sure the Highlands Defense will be trying to recreate the stress level he was under in that game. With young athletes sometimes it’s easy to pull them back into that state of mind. As in a “oh no here we go again what’s wrong with me?” type of stuff. If they can get to him early and shake that confidence Cov Cath could become one dimensional like they did in other game. I believe that scenario playing out is a cornerstone of how Highlands could stay in this game.

A little off topic but where can I get a CovCath hoodie and hat before Friday????

I'd call the school to make sure before you go, but the Spirit Shop is supposed to be open Monday through Friday, 11am-1pm.

They also open it up at 6pm the night of home football games and close up shop after halftime.

Thanks. It would be tough to make it during the day....

Things go right there may be plenty in the garbage cans around 11:00 Friday evening...(That’s funny)

Stunting linebackers and linemen shooting gaps, keep the offense guessing. If Highlands can make CovCath “live” at third and long I like their chances.

Number 33 last week was running through the D like they were in cement. Hope Casey has the same fun.

CovCath has their D1 OL back for this game, JR Lucas Jones. He will help the line a lot.

A few folks have asked and I will answer: Jack Coldiron will probably not be 100%, but he is not missing the chance to go 4-0 against Highlands in his varsity career. He may not be able to play both ways on every snap, but he will play.

Everyone keeps talking about Covcath injuries. What about Highlands? Are they healthy?

Yes.

Highlands - 17-14

Colonels will score at least 35 at home. Don’t think the D gives that much up. Maybe 35-21. If the secondary plays a great game not even 21.
