Tahj Harding is transferring back to Newport

Featured Replies

NCAA scouting guru Corey Albertson tweeted that he heard it straight from Tahj.

He's leaving Princeton (OH) because the OHSAA didn't approve his transfer.

Does this make Newport a lead contender in the region?

IMO it will give Newport a much better chance to contend with the likes of CovCath and Cooper, yet even with Harding I still believe that these two teams are still clearly the top dogs in the region.

I said in another thread that I believe that with Harding it gives Newport a much fairer chance of being a region dark horse, but I don't believe that they can yet be considered on the same level as the Colonels, or the Jags.

With that said, I do believe that getting Harding back can help Newport breath a little easier when facing the handful of other capable competitive teams in the region.

Any repercussions with this? Will he have to sit out any games since he was at another school?

If Tahj Harding is back it clearly makes them a better team and back in the top 5 discussion but keep in mind this team was a region "dark horse" last year after the strong regular season and then lost to Holy Cross in the first round of the region as a heavy favorite in that game (and that was with MeKell Burries). So I will take a wait and see approach when it comes to how good this Newport team will be this year. I will say this too, I don't think Coach Snapp gets the credit he deserves for the job he does at Newport. Behind all the animation on the sidelines I think the guy can coach. Good luck to Newport this year.

Huge bonus for Coach Snapp. Having had one of my own sons having to transfer from KY to OH I know first had that the OSHAA looks out of state transfers with a very bright microscope and you MUST has all your ducks in a row with every I dotted and every T crossed. None the less, I wish the young man the best and I know Snapp will continue to get his players to play extremely hard.

Thats great news for the Wildcats! He will def make them a better team.

Hopefully the transfer doesnt limit his eligibility whatsoever.

IMO Newport just got on Cooper's level and close to Cov Cath. 4 of 5 starters returning I believe with guys that are athletes and can shoot. I know they haven't had much region success but if their shots are falling and they're running and gunning, they can beat anyone in the 9th. Harding matched up on Thelen will be worth watching. If my coaching duties allow it I may have to make the trip east to catch that game on Jan. 2

If this is true, Newport is probably the favorite to win the region All- A and be a strong contender to win the region title. They are obvious behind Cov Cath and slightly behind Cooper but I dont see anyone else better than them.

Harding was a statistical double-double last year. If he can do that again, they could be a problem. That said, they did lose to an under-manned Holy Cross-team in the region. Not sure if that still plays because teams change, but with 4 of those starters coming back, it shows vulnerability.

Hard to beat anyone 3 times in a season. Holy Cross made adjustments and slowed the tempo tremendously. They hit shot after shot contested or not. They took Newport out of their game plain and simple.

The school doesn’t care and no way their coach will do anything. Kids get to do whatever they want.

I was more talking about the state of KY and transfer rules, etc.

No KHSAA won’t have anything to say about eligibility. He never played for another school. This is similar to when the kid transferred back to Harrison County after being ruled ineligible at Scott County.
