UCF vs Top 25

These questions come up on an annual basis. Don't try to look at it through the prism of "Can UCF best X, Y, and Z team?" Ask yourself where you believe UCF would rank if they were in a Power Five conference? An individual game they can beat almost anyone, but for a season you are fooling yourself if you believe they lose less than four games. They do not have the depth. That would put them in the back third to back quarter of the top 25, which is probably about right.

Two different teams I know, but when I watched Boise State play Oklahoma State I was amazed at just how big of a talent margin there was. I actually really liked Boise State going into that game. I think they are still better than UCF. But if you matched up 22 on 22 UCF, Boise State, Memphis, or any other great G5 school with a top 25 team they may stack up pretty well. But they just can’t matchup physically from a talent perspective or a depth perspective with any of the power 5 teams in the top 25 or probably even the top half of the power 5. So while UCF may be able to knock off 5-6 of the top 25 (I think they would only be favored against Colorado, currently), over the span of a whole season they couldn’t handle the attrition that comes with the week to week grind of playing a power 5 schedule. So I agree wholeheartedly with you that they would be in the 20-30 range at the end of the year if they played in a power 5 conference.

UCF will never get anybody's best shot. Which is unfortunate, I happen to think they are a very good team. Most Power 5 teams would not prepare the right way and give UCF the attention needed to beat them. It's not UCF's fault; it's just the way it is. With that being said, assuming both teams were on their A games; I would say they would beat about 6 or 7 of the teams in the top 25.

I also think Boise State is a really good team, but I watched them 3 weeks ago struggle matching the physicality and speed of Oklahoma State.

Debate? Was this even a debate or just you telling me I’m wrong?

Light bulb moment my friend!

There's a good chance they'd beat Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma State to name a few.

How many of these teams have you watched play? Not look at the box scores, not watched the highlights. How many have you actually watched? Just satisfy my curiousity.

UCF in a one game situation "could" beat several teams in the top 25.

In a bowl where they'll likely be playing a team that fell down to play them, they will always have a good chance due to being more motivated that their opponent.

All of them including UCF. You?

Why you have such a hard time with people not jumping onto your bandwagon is perplexing to say the least.

Have you watched enough of the other 24 teams in the Top 25 to definitively say UCF would only beat one of them?

This.

Some people take football way too seriously it seems.

It's just a form of entertainment people. Not every post/comment needs to be dissected, argued, and psycho-analyzed.

I'd say if they played them in a one game format, UCF could beat at least 10-15 of them at any given time.

If they had to play an entire season against a top 25 schedule, they'd probably be around .500, maybe. Of course, I think the same could be said about almost any team.

That’s fine. Just wanted to see if your eyes told you the same things mine did.

In a one game setting a lot of teams outside of the top 25 can win against the top 25. That's the nature of college football. Power 5 teams playing UCF will always be at a disadvantage. If you win; you were supposed to hence nothing gained. But whoa if you lose all hell breaks loose. They just won't demand the type of preparation and attention from the players that they deserve.

Definitively no, because nothing in sports is definitive. But watching them vs the rest of the top 25 I’m pretty confident in saying they don’t matchup physically nor do they have the depth that a power 5 team has. The one thing UCF does have that matches up with a lot of the top 25 is speed. They are a fast team that would cause problems, but the only top 25 team that I think I would favor them is Colorado. That’s not to say that UCF couldn’t win in a one game scenario, I just wouldn’t pick them.

That’s what I enjoy doing. Like it doesn’t bother me if you don’t enjoy college football the way I do, but college football isn’t just a form of entertainment to me.

How about against an average power 5 schedule? How about if they had played UKs schedule so far? To me they would be 3-2 if they had played UKs schedule up to this point with losses to UF and Miss State.
