Because it’s about the entirety of the season. Adding more teams allows team who didn’t do it for the entirety of the season, a “chance”. The reason college football is my favorite sport is because of the urgency each game brings and it starts week 1. You don’t get this in any other team sport at any level. It makes college football unique. I don’t want to see the unique nature of college football go away.

No for the 10 billionth time I’ve said Ohio State didn’t deserve to be in the playoff. They wouldn’t have beat any of the 4 teams in the playoff. It’s not a big deal. We lost to Iowa. For once, this isn’t about Ohio State.

Usually 5th and 6th are teams with 1 loss. Once you start getting into teams with 2 losses, I’m out.

I’m all for expanding the playoff and including more teams in different ways, but I have the actual goal of wanting to break the system. I think the way college football champions are crowned massively favors established schools with tons of money.

 

More opportunity may lead to a greater distribution of talent across more schools. Let’s do it.

Anytime someone disagrees with me they throw the fact that I’m an OSU fan in my face and tell me I’m wrong. We can have conversations without calling each other stupid. That’s my issue. You say everything comes back to OSU. I don’t post that way, you read my posts that way.

College basketball is somewhat similar in that big money programs have a huge advantage for advancing to the NCAA tournament since they often can afford to play no true non-conference away games and never at "smaller" schools. Schools with less money often play half their non-conference games on the road and can almost never get quality teams to play them at home. This is a huge advantage disparity, but at LEAST they "get a chance" to win a national championship via conference auto bids.

 

Conference auto bids should be a thing in CFB for this exact reason. Why is a national championship called a "national championship" if half the teams in the NCAA have roughly ZERO chance of actually playing for it? Even if you don't agree that all G5 conferences should have an autobid to a CFP, at LEAST there should be a single G5 autobid. This way you can actually claim that all schools had a chance at winning the national championship, vs 50% of schools having a chance at the moment.

College football doesn’t want this. They want the regular season to serve as the de facto “tournament”. Like I’ve said, I believe this is what makes college football special and it’s a huge reason why I love the sport so much. It’s a season long tournament as opposed to college basketball where individual games don’t matter until March.

You can't have teams like Alabama playing 8 home games per season and 4 road games per season. That is not a tournament where nobody has a distinct advantage. You would have to have scheduling mandates in this case, where teams like Alabama play road games at UCF. At the moment, no "big money" team will play difficult non conference games on the road. No small money school can afford to have good teams at home. Therefore, making the regular season a de facto tournament is more of a money competition than it is an indicator of how good a team is. Now this I can get behind. Scheduling should be more standardized. For instance you have to play a OOC road and home game every year and every conference plays the same number of conference games. The Big 10, Big 12, and PAC 12 playing 9 while the ACC and SEC play 8 is dog crap. I don’t blame the SEC and ACC because in most instances that additional game is used for a cupcake and it allows them to get more teams bowl eligible. But it needs to be standardized in some way. Also don’t say no “big money” team will go on the road. Ohio State played home and home with Oklahoma and TCU was supposed to be home and home but TCU cancelled the return trip to Columbus so they moved the game to Jerry’s World this year. They also have non conference home and homes scheduled with Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas, and Washington in the coming years. Next years schedule is pitiful because of that cancelled TCU game.
