Postponement of games during playoffs

Featured Replies

Under what conditions or reasons should a school be allowed to postpone a game? Now we all know if we have lightning that's a no brainer. We can't play. How about Rain, Snow, flood, 9-11, finacial gain, safety of the players, death in the family, flu bug in the school ect. It appears that "we play football in all weather conditions" is beginning to be abused. Is this a trend?

I say that unless there is lightning striking the field goal posts then the game must be played.

YES! Friday night's mud bowls were unnecessary. I watched a football float on top of water when the official set it down. I watched players sink to mid calf in mud. The announcers stopped giving stats over the intercom because they couldn't see the numbers of the jerseys. I've heard "that's football" so many times it's pathetic. Players wanted to postpone the game because it was just a matter of who could hold the ball and slide the farthest. It was nothing but an injury waiting to happen. And there were several because of the mud. At some point someone should have stepped up and postponed some of those games. Those fields won't heal until spring thaw.

I think while games being delayed to the next day might be happening more often it also happened in the "old" days too.

Anyway as more schools get turf fields it will most likely decrease.

If I understand the KHSAA rules correctly, its up to the two schools playing the game to decide if a game should be postponed for any reason. I'm not sure if it is even mandatory that the KHSAA be notified if a game is rescheduled. Once the game begins, I think it is entirely up to the officiating crew. That is my understanding anyway.

I think everything possible should be done to play the game at its scheduled time. If there is a need to cancel/postpone the game, that decision should be made at least one (1) day in advance if at all possible.

Also, I would like to see more teams play Saturday night games. I know it conflicts with college games, but as a football fan, it would be nice to have a chance to watch some other teams play on the weekend. Saturday games would afford that opportunity.

Then why bother postponing the games one day later?

I would agree. And why do they all have to be at 7:30 PM. Why not stager the times also.

I got to do that a couple times in high school. On friday I went and scouted the team that we were going to play the next week.

More importance on keeping the athletes safe...less on the field. Sorry for the confusion.

I see your point, but as a former player I never liked to have the games postponed, especially when they call the game halfway through.

One big reason for the games having to be played on certain days and times is due to several yrs ago Highlands was playing at Bell Co/Belfry?(someone help me out here) but anyway, they scheduled the game on Thanksgiving day at 1pm(I think). This caused quit a comotion around the state and the KHSAA made some changes.

One of you Highlands fans chime in w/the proper team and time!

I understand the change and I'm pretty sure you're right. I actually meant that I wished more teams played regular season games on Saturday night. I probably posted in the wrong thread!

.

I know it happened in 1980 when Conner and Scott were postponed for weather reasons.

With the financial strain that many schools are now under, its absolutely the right thing to do if means more people buying tickets.
