The Reds are now 1-18 in his starts. He's got a 3.8 WAR for his career. I know it is in hindsight, but is this the worst contract in Reds history? 6 years for $105 million has netted the Reds 18 wins.

Before the most recent start/loss, I saw a factoid on the (then) 1-17 record in his starts. It said this was the worst record through 18 starts for any one pitcher/team combo since someone on the Cleveland Spiders in 1899.

Could be the worst signing in baseball history! His 2018 WAR is -1.7 and he made $20M!

 

Maybe Bruce Sutter for the Braves OR the LHP from the A's that moved to SFG? (Forget his name.)

Homer is not that bad. IF he becomes the scapegoat, then the ownership really is clueless. We wasted some of his good starts, never score runs for him, and play terrible defense when he pitches.

 

Deangelo Jiminez was a terrible contract. You can even say Barry Larkin's contract was equally bad.

 

Johnny Cueto's contract with the giants is also bad for what they are getting.

While I agree with you to some extent, taking lumps doesn't work for all pitchers. Some lose their confidence and never regain it. Reed seems to have gotten over his issues with throwing strikes and avoiding walks, Mahle, Romano and Stephenson haven't. They still want to pick around the plate instead of attacking hitters and shortening their pitch counts. I think these young guys have to learn to trust their stuff especially Castillo. He has dynamite stuff and could easily become a #1 on this staff

That's kind of the point IMO. You let them take their lumps. The ones that can't handle it aren't long for the big leagues as it is, so best to find out right away. The pitchers that make it are capable of bouncing back from rough patches. Gotta find out what you have IMO.
