BluegrassPreps Class 6A Football Rankings (9/3) Discussion

Class 6A

It is not often that you turn the calendar to September and Trinity and St. Xavier are winless, but that is exactly where we find ourselves after both lost heartbreakers in Week 2. With the Catholic boys searching for a win, Male now sits in prime position to take over the top of the Big 3, if they can hand Trinity one more "L" this week. Trinity's latest loss was to Moeller from Cincinnati. Scott County will also have their chance to make a statement as they turn around and will take a shot at the GCL powerhouse. Frederick Douglass is proving themselves to be the class of Lexington. The Stallions put a hurting on 1A Paintsville and will take on the most likely contender for 6A supremacy in Fayette County when they square off with Lafayette.

1. Trinity vs. #2 Male

2. Male at #1 Trinity

3. Scott County at Archbishop Moeller (OH)

4. St. Xavier vs. 5A Fairdale

5. Frederick Douglass vs. Lafayette

6. Butler at 5A Fern Creek

7. Simon Kenton at 5A Dixie Heights

8. Manual at 4A Western

9. Central Hardin at 5A #3 South Warren

10. Ballard vs. 3A #3 Central

Know way should Trinity and X be in the top 5.

Nobody outside the top 5 would beat Trinity. I would have Frederick Douglass in front of X. X and Butler would be a toss up game.

The teams Trinity lost to would mow over pretty much any KY team but Trinity gave all three pretty close games. I still don't see anyone IN KY better than Trinity, only teams with better records from playing schedules not as brutal as Trinity's. Male may prove me wrong Friday but I doubt it so in my book, T is still the best in KY till then.

A sports writer on TV made the comparison to Alabama playing and losing to 3 NFL teams. Bama would still be the tops IN COLLEGE.

X is no higher than 3 (Trinity and Male being in the top spots) but I can't think of 3 more teams along with Male and Trinity who I would bet money on beating X to justify knocking them out of the top 5.

I think when doing rankings, many people focus too much on record instead of what that record is composed of ie who the losses were to and by what margin.

I am going to assume you would have Male at #1. If true, this week the debate will end one way or the other. If Trinity beats Male, no one should doubt Trinity as #1. If Male wins, then this week Male should have been #1.

In addition, let's see how Scott County fares against Trinity's opponent from last week to get a read on how Scott County and Trinity compare.

You are absolutely correct in saying next week is very telling. How well Scott does will tell us a bunch about T's strength of schedule. If T beats Male and Scott beats Moeller (seriously doubt but let's go there), that will be very bead scratching.

Simon Kenton is too high, but other than that this looks good.

Please list five teams better than Trinity and Saint X, and your reasoning behind each. Thanks in advance.

Just thinking out loud but if two win less teams are still top five, just how weak is the state this season?

X and T shouldn't be in the top 10. The truth hurts!

I am curious. Do you look at strength of schedule at all? Or is it all about wins and losses regardless of who the opponents are?

Both we don't know how good they are.

This has always been an issue for me. T, X, H, and Scott County plus a random NKY team are always at the top. The degree of separation between the three top Louisville schools and the rest is sad.

Please list ten teams better than X and T and your reasoning for each.

The rankings look good to me. Trinity and Male are the two best teams and that’ll work itself out this week. I’d also love to hear who Collegefootballguy69 thinks is better than T and X.
