Why Is Gun Violence Worse in the US than Other Countries?

Featured Replies

I'm doing a bad job of asking the question. What has led to you forming the opinion that those countries have less violence in their media, music, videos and movies?

Which countries are we talking? Those with limited or no free speech at all have a heavily censored entertainment industry.

I can agree with you on that.

I do know however that the breakdown of the American Family has come and gone at different times in history. My Grandparents were married in the 30's. He was unfaithful more than a few times I am certain in his many travels away from home. But my grandmother looked away from those things cause she chose to. She'd call him on it on occasion and when he retired he did become an entirely different man.

But the American Family has never been perfect even when divorce rates were lower.

Nothing like we have seen since the 1960's. The breakdown of the family now is without comparison.

The homicide rate in South Africa is 7 times greater than the US. Not sure what the weapon of choice is.

What’s your point?

Remove Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis from the equation and where does the US rank?

Why would we remove them from the equation? Does every country get to remove cities and get re-ranked? What would that even show?

:lol2: Right. How does it make sense to remove cities?

South Africa has a homicide rate 7 times greater than the US. No matter what they are using to kill others, which I honestly don’t know what the weapon of choice is, the violence there is much more alarming there than the US. The title of the thread indicates that Gun violence in the US is worse than other countries, but it appears that South Africa far exceeds the homicide rate here.

Hope that makes it clearer for you.

Because we have a few select ghettos that people can’t escape because the system keeps them coming back monthly.

Also, so you know if we excluded those ghettos the US wouldn’t even be in the top half of gun violence globally.

I was thinking what the others have commented. I think South Africa probably has a couple of cities that alter their numbers dramatically.

The point of the thread is to discuss why our numbers here are they say they are, and what can be done to make them better. Showing that other countries are worse does neither of those things.

Oh, so no issues then because we aren’t in the top half. LOL

The title of the thread says US gun violence is worse than other countries. South Africa is a country and their ‘violence’ is much worse than ours. That was the point I was making. Once again, while the murder rate is higher there, I think the title of the thread could be misleading and redirecting putting the blame on guns.

Again, what does this due but skew the numbers? Those cities are in the US and their numbers should be counted. Why pick and choose?
