Kentucky State Police investigating shooting involving Erlanger Police

Featured Replies

I’m not gonna pretend I’ve never carried in a bar (never drink if I’m carrying period), but I thought there was a law against it.

There is.

My understanding is if they serve food you can carry in the areas designated as restaurant. Strictly bar area that serves alcohol is off limits. Also any bar or restaurant that post " no firearms or concealed weapons allowed" means that you cannot carry in that establishment, albeit they have to ask you to leave, if you don't then the police can get involved. That is my understanding of the law

I have a question about this maybe someone can answer. Guy pulls a gun aims at police, gets shot, state police there quickly to investigate. 18 year old girl is shot and killed by an officer in her car leaving a party and the state police refuse to investigate. Any body tell me why either way?

I think it has to do with the request. Erlanger PD requested the state investigate this right away. Boone County started their own investigation and did not request the state’s help until some time had passed. The state wants to be (maybe requires) being involved from the beginning if they are going to help.

I’ll be honest. I ignore all those “no firearms” signs, and I assume most others that carry do as well.

Yep. It’s not illegal to carry. It’s only illegal if they ask you to leave and you refuse.

Right. Boone County waited a full day or two before calling, right? If I'm not mistaken, it was long enough that they had already cleared the scene and removed all evidence.

The State Police offered to help with that case but just said it is too late to take it over.

That makes perfect sense.

In fairness to the Boone County SO that agency is probably 4 times the size of the Erlanger Police Department and much better equipped to handle major incidents so I can understand Boone County saying to themselves "we got this" until they quickly realized this is going to be controversial so we better get a third party to handle to the investigation.

Again, I am long in the tooth here, but those "no firearms" signs normally don't mean anything and have no consequences for ignoring them other than you can be asked to disarm or leave if management figured out you were carrying a gun.

Who gets stuck with the cost of the investigation?

Ultimately always the taxpayers.

And if we in NKY can actually get something, anything from KSP besides speed enforcement, then all of our local tax dollars that fund KSP are not a complete bust.

So the state versus Erlanger since they turned it over to them?

I truly believe anytime they're is an officer involved in shooting someone, an outside department or organization should do the investigation.
