October 26, 200619 yr I have NO problem with a school taking the necessary steps to further the University, even if it means putting a great deal of money into athletics. That said, Brandeis School of Law is experiencing a substantial shortage of money. The issue has appeared in the Journal. UoL law is considering doing away with it's night program due to lack of funds, while concurrently the school proposes to spend HUGE amounts of money to benefit the football program. I am all for directing money to athletics, even in high school. That said, I have a hard time believing ONLY private donations will push this project. It is the State's job to fund education, but at the same time, shouldn't we place priority on EDUCATION? I recently made the comment that I thought Belfry High School should not shy away from donations to further devolop the football facilities on campus in the face of criticism that the funds could be better put to use for other purposes. I draw an OBVIOUS distinction from the two situations and encourage comments. Belfry High School has AWESOME acedemic AND football facilities. Louisville has excellent football facilities, but quite frankly lacking facilites to promote the Universities primary purpose of education. Should the University of Louisville really consider expanding (at great cost) Papa Johns Stadium, while it's various schools are forced to make difficult cuts to education. Two of my classrooms actually have ancient amenities, including chalk boards (as opposed to dry erase) and no technology to mention. Should UoL football really trump education, which I think we can all agree agree is the FUNDAMENTAL purpose of STATE institutions?
October 26, 200619 yr I think U of L can fill the stadium for big games, and have 80-85% for others like UK does if their current success continues. A few down years will affect attendance greatly, the first couple of years they couldn't sell out PaPa Johns most games and had to do the top 10 for $10 sale. I could see similar sales return if their record drops

"Over the next two budget years U of L will get $13.8 million in new money from the state, or about half of what the Council on Postsecondary Education had sought on its behalf. By contrast, the University of Kentucky received $25.5 million, 93.3 percent of the $27.3 million the postsecondary council requested. October 27, 200619 yr They are winning, but.....:lol:I was pointing out what sort of circumstances would have to play out for The Oven to expand to 80,000 in such a short period of time.
