They're trying hard to not close the open endzone until if and when it's absolutely needed.From what I have always understood the horseshoe will NEVER be closed in. The stadium was built in 1996 to be expanded at max to 80+ the remainder of which would be from the B&W Club over the proposed pavillion/food court at the south end of the Crunch zone to the propose upperdeck. In other words filling the south end above the proposed pavillion.

I would hope that they make to leap to 80k sooner than later. With a city that size and the success that they are currently enjoying one would think "If you build it they will come"

Why not, there in the Big East now, and if you listen to their fans are one of the top teams in college now, should be in the NC game this year. Many other schools fill stadiums a lot bigger than that on a regular basis. I've been to 3 or 4 games there and it has always been a blast. Louisville has bigger population to draw from than the hometowns of many other universities. Why wouldn't they fill it.

And with that 62k, is Commonwealth full? I know I watched a couple games where the upper corners of the stadium were empty...PJCS is packed every week...

I'm failing to see this as a fair argument... If UK had a team as good as UL, they'd have no problem filling Commonwealth every week. People go to see good teams play, it's a well known fact. On the flip side, Papa John's doesn't have as many seats (right now) and UL is a good team... So it's not really that hard to fill all the seats.

Asking if UK can fill Commonwealth is a moot point because... i don't know if you noticed this or not... But I've been doing some research and... They aren't very good. But the fact that UK is extremely bad and still gets more attendance than UL... It's not a choice to expand, it's a necessity.
