April 19, 20188 yr FWIW. The most drug overdoses per capita occur in West Virginia, New Hampshire, Kentucky, Ohio, and Rhode Island. I believe Colorado is ranked 15th in this category. Alcohol was not considered a drug, and marijuana is considered an illicit drug in all states in the study by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, from which I am quoting.
April 19, 20188 yr Actually googled some articles yesterday and posted some comments but server failed and lost the post. I’ll try to remember the points I took away. In Colorado, The usage of 25+ year olds has doubled. The usage of kids 12-17 had increased significantly. DUI’s have decreased steadily over the years. Fatalities have increased though in those accidents. Couldn’t find any articles about the correlation of weed to heroin out there . What do Colorado's population numbers look like since legalization? As far as adult usage, I would like to see if that study excluded those who moved to Colorado once marijuana became legal. That would significantly affect their findings.

April 19, 20188 yr I wonder how many businesses are going to take advantage of 420 day to do random drug tests on their employees.

April 19, 20188 yr In the past couple of weeks there was a study that I heard about on the radio that said the tar and nicotine and cancer-causing agents generated from smoking marijuana was worse than cigarettes. I don't have a link as it was something I heard on the radio but will try to find something tonight. I'm guessing that you're referring to the fact that cigarettes have filters and most homemade marijuana cigarettes do not. The difference is that the average cigarette smoker may smoke 10+ cigarettes a day, while the average pot smoker inhales far less frequently. As @theguru alluded, if marijuana were legalized you would see a significant increase in the number of alternatives to smoking marijuana. Edibles (i.e. marijuana infused cookies, breath mints, etc.), vapors, oils, creams and other ways to consume marijuana would become much more prevalent in lieu of lighting one up & inhaling smoke.
April 19, 20188 yr I'd say they still would try it, but not as many. Would more or less people smoke pot if it were legal? I would without a doubt smoke weed if it were legal and my employer didn't care. I sleep like crap most of the time, weed would help.
April 19, 20188 yr Paper companies are big contributors to that lobby also. As are the world's alcohol producers. Ok, I'm going to need some help here. I get why pharma and spirits would be against legalization, but I can't come up with a reason for paper companies to be against it.
April 19, 20188 yr That is such flawed logic. Sure, most heroin addicts have tried marijuana prior to heroin, but in most instances they've also relied heavily on nicotine and/or alcohol. There is nothing in particular about marijuana that promotes the use of other drugs. The reality is that the majority of marijuana users do NOT go on to more hardcore drugs. This. I know a lot of people who smoke weed. None of them do anything harder.
April 19, 20188 yr My opinion is always the same. Legalize everything. The government should not be able to tell any adult what they consume in a truly free country.

Lumber companies, too. You can make paper out of hemp. In fact, the first two original drafts of our country's Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper.

Well I knew that, but it sure didn't come to mind. Thanks. On that note it sounds like maybe cotton farmers, and other textile producers would be against it as well.
