Kentucky All Star Team

Featured Replies

I just checked both lists courier journal and Lexington herald and she is the only one that didn’t make it onto the all star team that was on first team on both of those polls. I also had a source tell me they saw her tryout and she had a great tryout as good as anyone on the list. It’s amazing these things happen especially to a great player deserving to be there with the rest of the top players in the state where she has proven to be all year long. Just not sure how you single one player out like that.

It stinks but it happens in every sport OTHER THAN CROSS COUNTRY

AND TRACK where the times dictate everything! (I would guess swimming is the same). Bunch of crap, just check pre-season "watch lists" for softball, baseball, field hockey and others. Kids not on those lists are going to be playing at high level Division 1 programs while kids on the list will end up at maybe playing Division 3 or NAIA.

AAU affiliation plays into these decisions.

I can tell you that not a soul called me about this team. If they had Clos would have made it.

This class is deep. Very deep. Not matter what someone was going to get left off. Its unfortunate it happens.

AAU should not matter, just the best players. Held never played for Premier. She made it. She is a great player. Heck I wish she had played for us. :)

Can tell you for a fact AAU had nothing to do with picking the team!

Who were invited to try out?

Johnson from Manual should be on the team.

She did not show up for try-outs.

No doubt this was as deep a class as there has been in years. Per an earlier post, while this was a deep class, it was an especially deep class re the guard position. Thought the team really needed an extra big and the Christian Co kid would have been the pick to fill that void. However, if that were the case, that meant probably another guard would have been taken off the list ...

Who were invited to try out?

All the regional players of the year along with the runner ups, plus a few invites of kids from regions deep in senior talent.

Has this always been the case?

I don’t remember it being that way in 2016.

Not sure about 2016, I know it’s been like that the last 2 years now.

The girls that made the team are well deserved. I hope those that feel a player that was eliminated should not have, know every single player that was at the tryout. The tryouts are necessary to determine the final line up. Congrats ALLSTARS YOU DESERVE TO BE ON THE TEAM! Sorry not everyone makes the team, participation ribbons not available.

I heard Lexi Held was not selected for the Ohio/Kentucky All Star game. (She was later added when 1st selections couldn't attend)

These selections always seem to have someone left off that clearly should be on team.

There are probably too many coaches involved with their own players involved, which doesn't leave many spots left.

Congratulations to everyone on the team!

If true that's egregious...she was clearly one of the five best seniors in the state this year and the best player in NKY. Agree with the bolded but someone has to coach the team. Coaches should be limited to select one player from their program. The coach from Mercer is a good example...he has five or six kids who are D1 but only the Robbins girl should be allowed on an all-star team he is coaching.

C'mon man, that is just a crazy idea re the coach "should" only have 1 kid on the team! Perhaps if the coach for a given year didn't have a competitive team -- maybe. But the Mercer coach won back-back state titles for crying out loud!! Why punish the kids excluded or the all-star team via removing some obvious talent that would actually help the all star team?

We wouldn't want great D1 caliber players to play on the all star team versus a state rival? Funny.
