Mark Story Article about Rich Brooks

Featured Replies

Very good story and I've also, not been a Coach Brooks fan of his coaching, not the person. He seems like a great guy but I agree Ricky, nice to have a positive story, about college athletics.

I liked this quote...."Rich Brooks may not have won enough to earn Kentucky's allegiance. But he has conducted himself in such a way that he deserves your respect".

About time something positive from the local media.

Good article. Brooks has always seemed to be a good man and I'm glad the media decided to put an article out with the same thought.

Was it Leo Durocher who said, "Nice guys finish last?"

Very nice article.

I am going to defend former UK coach Bill Curry on Mark Story's attack on him in the Rich Brooks article.

Coach Curry went to TE Jimmy Haley during the week leading up to the Tennessee game and told him that he was giving him a choice. He would be the starting tight end for the ballgame, but it would cost him his redshirt. Jimmy Haley elected to give up his redshirt for the opportunity to start the final game. Coach Curry left the decision entirely to Haley and his family......not a unilateral decision by the coach as Mark Story implies.

Very inaccurate, unfortunate journalism by Mark Story of the Lexington Herald.

:thumb:Imo Curry was another class individual.

I have been an extreme critic of Brooks and his staff as far as the coaching goes and still am. This article however is a very nice article, I enjoyed it.

Bill Curry has/had a lot of class.

It was a mistake and a bad one when Curry took the redshirt off Watts and Haley. I don't know that it makes him a bad guy as Story hints at but it was a poor decision.

That was the only thing I didn't like about the story. Curry may have not won a lot of games while at UK; but I don't think anyone could question his motives.

Good Story. IMO Hes got the job so he deserves our respect and support of the program. Im neither a Brooks lover or hater, but its not like he came and took a good program and ran it into the ground. I think time is the only thing that will heal Kentucky Football. Is Brooks the man for the job? Right now he is.

Doesnt it feel like forever since we've had a home game?

Cant wait for the Bulldogs,

Yoter

My point previously made was that Bill Curry did not take the redshirt off these boys in the end of the season. He went to the players and their families and they made the decision.

How many other college coaches would ask for family or player input?

I understand, but I think it was a mistake to even give them the option. Just my opinion. Once again I don't think it makes Curry a bad guy just a poor program builder.
