Is John Beilein an HOF coach?

Featured Replies

I heard it discussed last weekend, and I'm sure it's going to come up even more between now and Monday.

Is John Beilein a Hall-of-Fame coach? Please discuss …

Yes. John Chaney, Charles “Lefty” Dreisell, and Guy V Lewis are in. Stands to reason Beilein is in.

Help me out here, because I think you're comparing apples and oranges given the eras your 3 worked compared to Beilein. Please elaborate.

Not sure about eras, but Chaney and the Lefthander never made it to a Final Four and are in...

Louie Carnesecca and Ray Meyer (I Final 4 apiece and no finals appearances). Marv Harshman and Ralph Miller in.

1 top 10 recruiting class in the past 8 years. 1 was 107th. 2 Championship game appearances in that same time span.

HOf’s were originally meant for the truly elite. Problem is there are so few truly elite that they have to put great but not elite players, coaches in. Everyone mentioned are good, great, not elite. Not sure how you make a HOF if you haven’t won the prize. Sure some will disagree and that’s fine. Just my opinion.

Hall of Fames are museums.

Meant to bring in paying customers..not actuallly honor the truly elite. Is that your point? It was mine.

So with Beilein, why not. If he somehow wins Monday night, I’ll change my tune on him completely.

Actually I think he had 2 cause I think DePaul and George Mikan made it once in the 40's.

Guy Lewis was also a pioneer by defying the state of Texas and playing some great African-American players that the big State schools wouldn't recruit because of their color.

The guy is a good coach, but IMO he needs a championship to get in the HOF.

I really like him and hope he pulls this one out.

I'm a huge Beilein fan. Not sure he's a HOF coach just yet, but he wins tonight and he's got it on lock IMO.

If he was a bit younger, I'd love if he ended up replacing Coach Cal when he leaves Kentucky.
