Could Geno Auriemma.....

Coach a men's basketball team and be so successful and dominate like he has with the UCONN Women?

11 national titles, 18 final fours, 6 perfect seasons, 45 conference titles.

991-135 overall, 472-61 (Conf), 78-10 (Conf Tourn)

No. One of the reasons he is so successful in the women's game is that the talent pool is so small and he has the ability to corner it. No way that happens on the men's side.

Could Geno coach men and be successful enough to win a championship given time? In my opinion, yes.

Why should he try, though? He's at the top of his game, makes a butt load of money, and has the respect of millions.

As successful? Not a chance. I do think he could run a top tier program and win a couple national championships though.

Then again, I thought Nick Saban could coach in the NFL.

Based upon what?

Nobody in men's college basketball has had a perfect season since 1976. Unlikely that Geno could get one and almost certainly not multiple.

Based upon what?

You say he couldn't. What do you base that on?

Gregg Popovich on whether Geno Auriemma could be successful coaching men's basketball ...

“The question itself almost makes it sound like what he’s doing isn’t as valuable. He’s doing the same damn thing that we all do, no different from what John Wooden did. So, who cares whether he coaches guys or not? Even if the answer is, of course he could.

I’ll give you one good reason — he’s got that wise guy in him, and by that I mean he can screw with you with a sense of humor and that helps you make demands of talented people.”

Based upon what?

I think great coaches are great coaches regardless of gender. You can’t win at the level he is in the women’s game simply because there is more elite talent to go around. But he’s one of the greatest basketball coaches this world has ever seen.

No way Geno could do in the Men's game what he has in the Women's game.

That said, he could absolutely coach and be very successful doing so in the Men's game, to think he wouldn't be successful is just shortsighted and wrong.

Then again, I thought Nick Saban could coach in the NFL.

Well, it was just Miami so we may never know if he could actually coach an NFL team or not. :)

I second this post.

History. How many coaches have won multiple titles?
