The misunderstanding over the District Titles has already started

Featured Replies

Both the Commonwealth Journal and Southwestern's coach seemed to have gotten confused like most everyone else over who is and who isn't district champs. Here's the link:http://www.somerset-kentucky.com/localsports/local_story_294153427.html?keyword=topstory

What makes it even worse in this case is that the coach doesn't know any better either, the KHSAA didn't do a good enough job explaining how this works. Do you think this might end up on Boyle County's bulletin board--as if they need any extra motivation? There will probably be several teams that "won" district titles watching another team receive the actual championship trophy in the playoffs and not be happy about it.

In all honest, they both could end up right. Though some coaches don't like it, I understand that the district 1 and 2 seeds will end with trophies to present that say "Regular Season District Champion" and "Regular Season District Runner-up". Then in the second round games at the end, those teams with get the ones that say "KHSAA District Champions". So I guess everybody wins in the arguments. Though the KHSAA probably could have done better to let the media know how it was played out, they told the coaches (that chose to listen) how it was going to be all along.

That is the first time I have heard that, kissinger. The topic has come up here a few times and I have read coaches comments elsewhere that indicate nobody really knew that. Most who heard what the KHSAA was saying were thinking the District Champs would be crowned in the playoffs, but even they didn't know about the regular season champion designation, as far as I can tell.

At any rate, thanks for setting us straight and kudos to the KHSAA for both designations. With the playoff format we now have, I personally think it is the right thing to do.

Its my understanding that all teams were made aware of the rules changes regarding the district titles. SW just added more fuel to the Boyle train that seems to be making there late season run.

Not being the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes;) I give. Could someone explain to me who is what and when will they be what they think they are, and how will they get to be what they want to be:D

Maybe he did his research. There will be a regular season District Champion and Runner-up

So, for example, if let's say Danville beats Frankfort in round two(pray pray) and makes it to the Regionals, and there sits Bardstown or Bethlehem as a #1 seed, then by rule the Admirals would have to play away for the title?? Is that right??

I believe they would I think.

Are they seriously going to give out two different district champion trophies? That's just dumb, in my opinion!

I think its one whoever wins the second round of the playoffs then wins out that district championship. The regular season is just for tourny seedings thats it.

Wasn't there a thread last week in which someone posted an email from Julian Tackett or Butch Cope stating that the regular season was for seeding only.
