Should teenagers be prohibited from buying phones with the ability to text?

I just praised you, and you had to go and give this answer? :idunno:

I thought my sarcasm was obvious. I apologize. :lol2:

What is the difference in talking on a phone vs talking with the people in the car?

Both are distractions, but the phone often requires a look down to dial or push a button.

My bad...perhaps it is I that needs a break. :ohbrother:

I would disagree, a person in the car with you is a way bigger distraction than a phone, that I can control everything through my steering wheel.

What kind of passengers do you have ? :lol2:

Are kids still going to die in car accidents if we take away texting? The answer is yes.

So why would we take away texting?

If it saves just ONE life, isn't it worth it? Sarcasm mode on full.

I think every car should have a block whereby no texts can be sent or received when the car is in gear. Would love to add calling to the block also.

Phones in cars are much more dangerous than guns. 11 teens dying a day and no outcry. Wonder why that is?

Because fiddling with the gps or the music on the phone isnt distracting at all. Nor is eating, drinking, smoking.

Do you look at people when you talk to them?

Simple, deep down no one cares about lives and safety. Its just an image look for the current media nothing more.

I agree. We need more of an outcry on texting while driving. The media needs to start publicizing and putting headlines on stories where texting contributed to deaths in a car accident. There are far, far more deaths by guns than texting while driving, but the texting needs more media attention.

Yeah, don't do anything because there are other distractions out there.

My brother-in-law told me that when he was coming home from work the other day, he had to beep his horn at a young lady who was texting when the light they were at turned green. At the next light, he pulled up next to her lowered his window and told her to save a life and stop texting.

At the next light, she motioned him to lower his window again, and she said indignantly, "I want to inform you I was not texting. I was watching a movie."
