February 28, 20188 yr No. The Constitution does not say if a gun is for sale it must be able to be sold to an 18 year old. It does say that if we decide an 18 year old can buy a gun, he/she may do so. But nothing says Dicks cannot decide the age they require their customers to be In order to buy a gun This is correct. Just like a store that sells alcohol can refuse to sell to someone who legally is allowed to purchase it, a seller of guns can deny service to whomever they choose.
February 28, 20188 yr Author What's the purpose of anyone should be able to purchase a semi auto pistol? Self-defense.
February 28, 20188 yr Author And can we stop with the "guns don't kill people" argument? Everyone realizes the biggest issue is the people who choose to commit these awful crimes. I don't think anyone here has ever questioned that. This argument is made by people who don't want to have a real discussion about how to HELP the issues we are facing. No one that is in favor of common sense gun laws think that it is going to completely stop these things from happening. Like I've said in other threads, the reality is we'll never be able to prevent them from happening. But we can make strides to make it more difficult, and that's what some of us, at least, are saying. Opposing any kind of gun reform whatsoever is pretty selfish.
February 28, 20188 yr I like the move in some respects... I’m shaky on the over 21 part. I have a little brother in the military who I’d trust with a gun more than just about any human being on the planet. He’s 19. Also, the “assault style” ban is silly. It’s just a regular rifle that looks different. Now, banning the “high capacity magazines” part, I’m definitely not opposed to it.
February 28, 20188 yr It has always been interesting to me that the laws are different ages for drinking, voting, firearms. we say it is not okay to drink until 21 but we let people buy a gun. I am not sure which age it should be but I find it interesting that it is different.
February 28, 20188 yr Author I definitely agree that folks in the military or law enforcement should have a way around the 21 year old requirement.

And while we're at it, let's stop the comparisons to other objects that people use to kill, such as bats, clubs, knives, bare hands, etc. We get that there are lots of ways people can kill others. But none can do so as efficiently or as well as guns. Using that argument is nothing more than sidestepping the issue. Technically, grenade launchers don't kill people either, but no one complains about them being illegal to buy. It seems the only solution the pro gun lobby will accept is arming more people and adding more guns to the environment. Having the most, and widest variety of guns available to buy in the world hasn't helped our situation. It's only led to a lot of gun violence and deadly accidents. There has got to be some common sense, middle ground that can be found. But both sides need to be more reasonable in both their arguments and expectations.
February 28, 20188 yr Constitutionally I think it does. I've read the Second Amendment a few times now and I don't see where an age is listed. So I'm pretty sure an 18 or 21 year old age limit doesn't violate the Constitution.

So 14-18 year olds can be trotted out set policy because, feelings......and 18 year olds can vote....so we can limit speech on anyone under 21 too?
February 28, 20188 yr For the ones that are against firearm sales being 21, what are your views on alcohol consumption at 21? Either 18 is an adult or it isn't. You can enlist in the military, buy a gun, vote, and you will be tried as an adult if you commit a crime. Yet you can't drink. Fine then raise all age limits to 21.

Fine then raise all age limits to 21. Agree. You either raise them all to 21, or lower them all to 18. There shouldn't be multiple layers to it IMO.

February 28, 20188 yr Again? They did this after Sandy Hook......oh I see just reiterating the point They did it in only in the Dick's stores after Sandy Hook. And quietly kept selling them in the Field and Stream stores. I agree, they make this sound much bigger than it really is. 610 Dick's stores and 35 Field and Stream. In essence, they haven't been selling AR style guns in 95% of their stores for the last 1/2 decade. As I said before, a good chunk of this move is more about PR than actual action.
