I've read the Second Amendment a few times now and I don't see where an age is listed. So I'm pretty sure an 18 or 21 year old age limit doesn't violate the Constitution.

This isn't infringing on anyone's ability to buy a weapon.

There is that study that says adolescence doesn’t end until 26 now. Maybe we do need to move everything to 21.

So 14-18 year olds can be trotted out set policy because, feelings......and 18 year olds can vote....so we can limit speech on anyone under 21 too?

 

It’s fair for those kids to protest, they got to see first hand the problems we have in this country with mental health, guns, and school safety.

I've never understood how it is acceptable to send an 18 year old off risking their life to do battle, but heaven help us if they drink a couple cold ones.

I have several hand guns and will probably own more in the future. I just see absolutely no purpose for a civilian to be able to purchase a weapon like an AR-15 or similar. Banning certain things, IMO, doesn't create the avalanche many people are afraid of.

 

There are plenty of reasons. Hunting, target practice, home defense, and the fact that the 2nd amendment says it is your right.

Dick's (and Field and Stream) aren't the federal government. They can make rules for themselves. If they want to set an age limit for selling sweatshirts in their stores, they can do that.

They can go to Joe's Gun Shack and buy their weapon. The Constitution does not guarantee anyone the right to buy a gun at Dick's.

And can we stop with the "guns don't kill people" argument? Everyone realizes the biggest issue is the people who choose to commit these awful crimes. I don't think anyone here has ever questioned that. This argument is made by people who don't want to have a real discussion about how to HELP the issues we are facing. No one that is in favor of common sense gun laws think that it is going to completely stop these things from happening. Like I've said in other threads, the reality is we'll never be able to prevent them from happening. But we can make strides to make it more difficult, and that's what some of us, at least, are saying. Opposing any kind of gun reform whatsoever is pretty selfish.

Think the person who said that was referring to the 18-21 yr old debate.

Heck, anyone can buy a gun at any age on a Facebook yard sale group and meet at a seedy truck stop motel at an exit on the WK. Dick's is just saying at their establishment, they don't sell to folks under 21

The problem with "common sense" laws is who decides what is common sense.

I don't see how, but even if it was, there's nothing that can be done about it. Companies are allowed to discriminate as long as it's not against a protected class.
