They have never had visiting stands, why would you want something like that? It has never been an issue before? Why would you want to change? How dare you think of doing something to Bob Miller Stadium, it was great in the 70's and 80's no need for improvement now!

Thats asking for trouble. Any reason why they don't have visitor stands?

In our facility (Dixie's) we have police officers and faculty members who monitor the student section of both teams and stand directly in front of them and behind.

Most schools have administrators at away for the same purpose. I sure coach Spritzky just loved the fact that he had to halt the game and come across the field to handle a situation that someone else should handle. So I am guessing there was no school member overseeing the student section. Thats where you are asking for trouble.

Congrats on the great win, Colonels!

Good Point.

I am amazed at the support that Campbell County fans have for the coaches in this situation. Everyone seems to support the call to go for the win rather than the tie, and the choice of playcalling when they did decide to go for it. I just wish other schools had this same confidence in their coaches. I've seen several schools that I cannot say the same about.

Huge win for Dixie... I saw CC doing big things... If Dixie can keep this momentum up they will be a force to reckon with.

Why would a stadium need visior stands? Hmmm... seems like you are the one bucking tradition on this one. Why? because it makes sense and ALMOST everyone agrees.

It is a shame that fan activity caused a change in the momentum of the game. Was no one supervising the student section?

Shame on the administration for not having someone at the game to monitor such activity?? No place in the game for that type behavior. As far as breaking the momentum, I doubt it did much good for either team?? Coach Spritsky having to spend time during an intense game away from the sidelines, to get the sutdents under control, certainly couldn't have helped their cause much either??

"Come on Dixie fans--You don't live in Cleveland!!" :D

Have you ever been to Campbell county field?

Here's a recent picture of Bob Miller Stadium (The Pyramid) for your reference. This picture was taken in July at the annual volunteer workday.

The stadium seats over 4,000+. The visitor side of the stadium consists of a heavily wooded, sloping hillside that would be difficult and costly to develop.

In the 30+ years that this stadium has been existence, there have been very few (if any) situations like the bottle throwing incident on Friday night.

If a student threw the bottle (possibly forgivable), if a parent threw it (INEXCUSABLE) and should be banned from future sporting events!

People might take a second to think about the bottle throwing. There were CC fans in the area as well. Is it right NO but I'm really sick of hearing how terrible Dixie fans are. I could mention several more that are above and beyond but why? This thread is about football not who has the worst fans. Something happen it was dealt with by a classy coach and let them handle it IF it came from Dixie.:fire:

It's unfortunate this thread has gotten away from the game. To set things straight, and move on about the game:

1. bullet2, welcome! The bottle was thrown from the crowd of Dixie students. There were no Campbell County fans around, and besides, why would they throw bottles at their own team? It was a stupid, immature thing to do. It was a complete embarrassment to Dixie. Spritzky came over, told the students it was a classless act, and when the guilty party was found, they would be kicked out of school. I'm sure Spritzky is taking care of the situation today.

2. There are a handful of Dixie fans/parents that can be a little outspoken/rude. This is the same case for almost every school. However, the core group of fans/parents are good people, at least at the varsity level. I hope the freshman parents can take note and act like civil people if this is indeed a regular thing.

3. LSURock, I'm sure you're just hear to stir things up. ;) There are many high school fields where there are stands on one side of the field (old Dixie field, Newport, Holmes, Scott, Beechwood, Conner, Ludlow, Bellevue, etc). There are many factors as to why, and it's usually do to land and money. Campbell has a very nice stadium. I love sitting high in the stands and watching games there as you have a great view of the field, although the light posts do block your view in some areas.

Now, can this thread please move back towards the actions that took place on the field and not off it?

Nice post Nees.... Ditto.

I only wish to add that I have been approached in private by more than one person concerning the behavior of the parents at the Highlands/Dixie freshman game. I realize that sometimes fans get a little caught up in the moment, no matter what your team is, but adults should realize (especially parents) that you are a reflection of your children as well as the team. I would not want someone to act as inapropriately as you did around my parents or any of my family. I'm sure you would not apprectiate someone doing so to yours either. Please exercise a little more tact in the future, as you are representing a lot more than just yourself.;)
