Clay Eifert: Northern Kentucky lost a legend tonight

Featured Replies

The Holy Cross community and all of northern Kentucky have lost a legend and icon tonight. Clay Eifert lost his 8 year battle with cancer, after fighting it with all the determination and grit he displayed on the court, and in life. Please keep Clay in your prayers.

So sorry to hear this. Literally had a conversation tonight about his health. Saw a Facebook post that concerned me. RIP.

I never knew Clay Eifert personally, but I have many MANY connections to him. Some of my best friends attended Holy Cross during his time there as principal, and all of them thought the absolute world of him. My in-laws and one of my aunts grew up with him and count him among their dearest friends. My cousin now lives in the house that he grew up in. There are great stories that will undoubtedly last for decades and decades about how phenomenal a human being Mr. Eifert was.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."

If I repeat a part of CWB's post, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

RIP Clay.

I had the pleasure of working with Clay at a Covington city pool just after graduating from high school, and knowing his past on the court, felt that I was working with a local legend. What impressed me about him far more than his athletic abilities was the complete friendly, humble, and peaceful way about him. What a super instantly likable guy who you knew was as sincere as it gets.

So sorry to hear this as the Holy Cross community, and all of Northern Kentucky has truly lost a remarkable son.

Prayers go out to his family and friends, and after his long battle may Clay find peace. In his case especially, it would only be fair that there is a Heaven waiting with open arms for him because if there's anyone deserving, it would certainly be Clay.

So very sorry to hear this.

Clay spoke at last year's NKBBCA Banquet at CovCath and was quite inspirational, living and enjoying life a day at a time. I'll always treasure the time spent chatting with him that day.

We've all lost a good friend today!!!

When I was completing my teaching degree at Xavier I got to spend 40 hours teaching with Clay at Holy Cross. He was a very good man!

Truly one of the greatest humans to walk this earth, hands down! The way he battled cancer for the last 8 years was amazing. Never once did you hear him complain, even though he was given every reason to. His speeches at the Holy Cross Hall of Fame induction, as well as the NKGCA Basketball Hall induction were truly remarkable. People always say it, but he truly was a Legend and will never be forgotten. RIP Claybird!

Great loss to the whole community, but his legacy is what will live on and shine bright. We all should hope to leave a legacy like his to our family, friends and community.

Sorry to hear prayers to the Eifert Family and Holy Cross Community.

I didn't know Clay well, but did talk with him a few times. His wife worked with my wife for years and were close colleagues. We occassionally were with tehm at events or ran not them out and about.

The grit fighting this was amazing. We were walking the Suspensiln Bridge after a Bengals game last year and Clay was not doing well, but he was determined to walk the bridge. We slowed down and walked with him and his wife and talked with him the rest of the way across the bridge.

I can remember saying to my wife that day, wow, that was amazing he did that. That is not an easy walk, especially with cancer acting up at that time.

I concur with all I have read in this post. The little I knew him, he was a super guy.

My prayers are with his family during this time.

Clay was a fierce competitor both as a player and as a coach. He always wanted to get the most from himself and then later from his players. He dedicated his career to education, both teaching and as the principal at Holy Cross HS. There are many sacrifices made to make such a life long commitment in the parochial school system. I have always admired Clay for his service at Holy Cross.

Clay was a very good man and I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
