Just give every school in Kentucky a state championship trophy before every season so everyone feels good. Kentucky can become the only state that proudly boasts "Every basketball team is a state champion here" and not be joking. It takes 1 or 2 good players to be a state contender in high school basketball regardless of Class you play in. The entitled few get their way again!

 

How does having a 2A tournament or a state going to a class system mean we should give every team in the state a championship trophy. Go watch the 1A tourney and see how hard the kids compete. I dont think anyone is wanting a trophy given to them by having more than 1 class. It will still be very tough to win a state title if you had 3 or 4 classes in Kentucky. The Class system just gives smaller schools a better opportunity. Try being a 1A school in the 6th, 7th or 11th region and see how easy it is to win a region title.

Nothing brings out the hyperbole in posters like the All A and now 2A Classics. We've already seen trophies, participation ribbons, and calendar disruptions brought up - all for an event that will see Paducah Tilghman beat Corbin at Henry County High School on a random Saturday night in January!

 

Maybe Corbin will beat Tilghman.

I've got no problem with the tournament, but I don't like the name. To me the word "championship" connotes the same as a state finals.

 

Which sounds more likely to be the official state tournament: The Kentucky 2A Championship, or The Kentucky 2A Invitational Tournament?

 

These guys were trying to make this sound as official as possible when they named their tournament. Then they trademarked it (I'm assuming we know this is actually trademarked) so if the KHSAA does ever expand to multiple class levels in basketball, then there will be some payoffs if they ever hope to use "Kentucky 2A Championship".

Where is CovCath in this mix? I think they would be in the smallest 131 schools in the state based on enrollment or do they treat all boys schools differently. Lloyd I think is the only other school outside the smallest 131 and under 1000 enrollment.

If it gets kids exposure, I am all for it. I don't think it will attract the casual fan, but who knows. It will help break the season up and eliminate that period between the holidays and districts that can sometimes seem to drag on.

I'm seeing lots of complaints online about big schools getting into the 2A tournament. Not sure it's being well-received by all.

I don’t know why those particular schools don’t compete in the tournament but there’s others throughout the state that also don’t play. It’s their choice. I know Hazard from my region didn’t play for the first year the tournament was held. Russellville didn’t play for several years in their region.

 

All the schools that qualify from the region I live in, the 14th, have played every year that they’ve been eligible with the exception of the first year that Hazard chose to skip it.

Ludlow did play St Henry and Lloyd played Holy Cross both on MLK day. The 1st round game were not played at Newport.
