I thought they housed their grades in different buildings.

Sounds like a good idea ;) Wonder if there should be a State Independent Tournament? Good idea?

Sure why not, water it all down...make it classes, independents, county schools, private and public.

That way everybody has a chance of winning something.

Then you would have people mad because teams like Danville, Corbin, and Frankfort would dominate...

This is true. Well any ideas? Though I think it would be fun to have something like this.

Williamstown is all one building.

I think Walton-Verona is all in school too.

Williamstown is all in one building

Walton-Verona, on the other hand has 2 school buildings. One in Walton and one in Verona and one soon to be between Walton and Verona.

I read in newspaper that MMI Alumni were upset because the school was going to take the focus off of military and more on prep school type atmosphere. The alumni said they were ok with a name change but refused to financially support the school if they weren't going continue the military tradition of the school. the entire alumni board actually quit when they heard that the new Forest Hill Academy was going to de-emphasize the military. The school had to have an auction to pay the teachers. The town has also lost it's bank and elementary school in recent years.

They were the 1927 state champs in basketball

I would be afraid.

Schools all in one:

Augusta

Cloverport

Jackson City

Model

Silver Grove

Burgin

Bardstown

Deming

Providence

Out of all those good all in one schools these are all that are left in the state

Slowly though they probably will shut down........Hope not

It's unique that Deming, Augusta and Silver Grove are all in the same region(10). You could almost throw St. Patrick in there too.

What's the reason they are being absorbed and please do not say they are small.

Providence's situation is a bit different. It's isolated in a rural area, with an old building (WPA build I think) that is falling apart. As a matter of fact, according to school folks down that way, it has been condemned in parts and they are using trailers, etc. Webster is having to rebuild from a tornado that went through a year ago so it is a natural opportunity to merge. Same thing kind of held true in Harrodsburg. Mercer building a multi-million dollar new facility contrasted with Harrodsburg's inability to fund such an update gave both Boards a reason to look at merger.

it's all about money when it should be about the quality of education. All the fancy buildings, all the fancy new computers, all the new sport fields will never be as good as one on one time with a good teacher. Most schools are two big in this state and they should be made smaller not bigger. The evidence is there if someone cared to look at it.

Providence is last in the state, or at least in the bottom five, in test scores. That one-on-one attention didn't help there.

You can add Monticello Independent has being an all-in-one school building.
