The number of Public School Distritcts this year is 175. Soon to be 174. If you know of any school closings post them here.

Anyone know why these schools are closing?

Harrodsburg absorbed into Mercer Co, MMI was supposed to open as a prep school with a name change but the Alumnus weren't thrilled about it, so they closed down, I don't know about Providence.

Well I think the Alumni were not really smart because now they have no school. Dang Mercer is going to have a good basketball and football team this season though.

As above, Providence Ind. will be absorbed into Webster Co. next year. There is a wealth of athletes at both schools...next year Webster will be out of the class "A" in basketball but will have a great athlete pool to choose from. Good thing! Because both were in the same district as much bigger schools like Henderson Co. and Union Co. The reason given for the absorbtion/merger, what else, finances!! Providence won the 7th district beating Hopkins County Central in their swan song before they went to Henderson's district.

What's the reason they are being absorbed and please do not say they are small.

What's the point of keeping it open if they couldn't get any students?

They're small.

They couldn't offer very many classes, they didn't have enough money to do anything and their test scores were among the worst in the state.

What's the enrollment at Augusta these days?

Let me see.......Around 325 or so up from last year 315 has been going up since 02 (hit all time low of 261 from high of 351) What is Providences probably now much bigger?

Hope you are not an anti-Augusta person now are you?;)

I heard that their test scores were like still in the 50s but I had thought it was a rumor.....

Harrodsburg felt like merging didn't they?

Are you speaking of Augusta's or Providences test scores? Because Augusta's test scores were much much higher than the 50s.

Providence had about 110 if I heard correctly.

Harrodsburg is doing pretty well in football with the top team in the state in 2A.

I've never been to Augusta.

The KHSAA says Augusta had 92 students last year in grades 9-12. What grades are you counting? Bracken County is listed at 393.

He was counting the total enrollment of Augusta K-12 which is in the 300s. If Augusta ever closes it won't happen any time soon. The administration there is the best its been in years maybe the best thats ever been there. The school is growing by the day with more students, new renovations, new classes, new everything.

Anyone who talks about enrollment usually only counts 9-12. The first graders probably aren't ready to help on the high school team.

It can many different things ,But the bottom line on all closures is MONEY.

What about Harlan Co....What schools are going to be consolidated into the new Harlan Co. High School?
