  1. Well lets see what you think about this season for the county teams and then in a few months we can look back at who's right.
  2. Hey Sonny is our bet still on, trying to figure out whether to start fasting or start shopping! lol
  3. LB just thinking that Cumberland will be the best , then probably Harlan with Cawood then Evarts. With only four teams thats the way I see this year playing out, Cawood is just very young, they will be improved but I still think that they would be a year or so away in normal circumstances but with the new school that seems it will be ready everything will change. Hopefully for the better, but with a bigger school brings bigger challenges, such as the step up to 5-A, HCH can't expect to play smaller schools when these things come about.
  4. HDE I was wondering if you had the same viewpoint as Sonny, I admit that I was using second hand info but that person has seen a lot of football in the last 20+ years, and most of the time they are right on. Looking forward to our dinner plans Sonny, either start saving or start fasting, you decide.
  5. didn't see one, had to work, ok sonny your on that is Harlan is getting 18 points in the Rax Bowl for a steak dinner. If you win you are invited to come to my home and I'll cook for you, and we will eat anything that you wish. I wouldn't take any pay if I were offered, just trying to give a little back, for all the people that gave of there time when I was coming up.
  6. No sonny they stayed for the entire scrimmage and while I was not there I think that the assement I gave of the play you are referring to is very close to what happened. If as you say Cawood dominated the second half, I would find that hard to understand because I don't see the Trojans being able to compete with any of the teams that were at this scrimmage. I still think that they will be much improved from the last few years, but that is still a long way to go to be able to stay with the teams in their district. As for the county they will be either the 3rd or 4th best team in a four team pool. (not very impressive)
  7. Harlan could put up some big numbers if they can catch the passes from Jones, Cawood's secondary is very weak.
  8. Had some folks at the Cawood / Leslie co. /Hazard/ Perry co. scrimmage and I was told that Cawood didn't look very good at all, they couldn't stop anyone and they had as much problem on offence. They did have some bright spots but they are only freshman and stepping up will be a big challenge. So even though Harlan didn't have a great showing either I now think that the green team can still put up some big numbers on the young Trojans, and end this series with a pretty good win streak.
  9. I must admit that I am lost on this comment also, so QB bring us old cats up to speed.
  10. LB didn't you here, I am starting a grassroots movment to get some office somewhere, I expect your support! Send all contributions to get MT. Pride a real job in care of Dragon pappy at his home the Joe Gilley field. BTW that is how I see the game at this point but after we see the the pre-season games I might be inclinded to change my mind. WOW I already sound like a canidate! Will you be attending this years game? If so look me up.
  11. I was not trying to disrespect any team of the Cullivan they were some really fine teams and they had some great talent, but being from the prior decade I feel that it is my duty to be somewhat biased. The eighties for Harlan co. as whole was imo the best football since the Lynch -Harlan wars of the 50s and 60s.
  12. wow it seems that most of the success of the trojans was in the 70s, now that makes me feel even better about my feeling that the Boyd Fox teams were as good or maybe just a bit better than the Cullivan era. imho!
  13. The field at the Joe Gilley Complex is really starting to take shape, the bermuda grass is really looking great and with the addition of the rubber crumb base, the surface should be in the best shape that we have ever seen in this county.
  14. My prediction on this game is it will be an emontionally charged atmosphere and each team will come out ready to go. If Cawood can get an early lead or stay close this one could be decided in the fourth quarter, but if Harlan gets out early to lead this one I see the Dragons being able to put this one in the win column and finish this fierce rivalry on a long winning streak.
  15. With this being the last year for the Harlan/Cawood rivalry how does everyone see this historic game turning out?
  16. Well it seems that this season is started off in the right direction! With LB and DP already at odds this should be a very entertaining time on BGP.
  17. Not to put a negitive spin on LB's post but, I spoke to one of the coach's and he said that they had 51-53 depending on what day it was, there have been some 8th graders out running drills with the high school and that might be why they thought the #s were a little higher. anything over 45 and you have got some serious depth to work with. I also question that they are any 4.5 fourties that is very rare in this part of the state, but as I have stated since spring ball the Trojans will be a whole lot faster than we have seen in recent years, and that in itself will allow them to be better.
  18. HDE, your within the same decade as the rest of us so you are considered old-timer also. Cawood got started a little eariler than the rest of the county schools, no other reason than they needed as much work under the new coach as possible. Soph. TJ Green looks to be the early choice at QB in the new offence, with SR. Bradly Howard at one back both have good size and decent speed, they look to be teamed with Shadow Westfelt and Charlie Howard at the other backs, both of these are small but pretty fast and tough. This rotation gives the Trojans a little bit of everything but my concern for them is a soph. QB running the option without very much time under center. The young kids mostly freshman have a great deal of talent but will they get quality minutes in a new system for a school that as it seems will playing their last season as JACHS. Only time will tell !!!
  19. Glad to see that you are still with us LB, hope that you have had a good summer and are looking forward to what maybe a historic season in Harlan co. football. Time is upon us for the start of fall/summer practice and I can't wait until we can get a read on what the season holds for us old-timers to talk/agrue about.
  20. I know this is not the correct thread for this but Harlan Ind. 5th-6th grade football team is in need of two games one being on a saturday. If anyone knows of a team that could fill this void then please call coach Tony Saragas at 573-1794 for all of the open dates. Thanks MP 10
  21. I just can't wait until we here from Whyme & Lungbuster they should be able to stir the emotions of the Harlan (City, County) faithful to an all time high considering this should be the last year of football for Cawood, Cumberland, and Evarts. I almost forgot Dragon-Pappy he can always give the City veiw point like nonother so let the fun begin.
  22. Not sure on Shepherd, but former asst. principal Stacy Noah was named to the postition earlier this week. She will do a very good job. imo
  23. I watched a 7 on 7 last week with pineville, Harlan, middlesboro, and c-gap TN. No one looked that good, with middlesboro intimidating Harlan and c-gap was just much bigger and faster than pineville. The one area that I didn't like was there was no clock on the quarterback in which to get the ball off, and that made each defence work for a long time and in game situation's that will not be the case. It was nice to see a lot of present and former coaches working with their kids to get them ready for the upcoming season.
  24. HDE when can we look for your early picks on the upcoming season? BTW what is the over and under for 20 wins for the county's four teams?
