Any word on a possible hire for this postition?

Kind of like going from sports reporting to managing editor, tough but it can be done.

He is out of coaching right now but I think he would like to be back on the sidelines where he belongs.

Now that is the job of my dreams, would be to replace the legend at the PA and spread all of this vast knowledge to the green nation. Have been honing my skills at the middle school level to modest reviews, something being said that I didn't metion (little Johnny enough) and I said but (little J can't play dead) so I may not move up. one can only dream.

I have looked into the position but I may be just a bit over-qualified in life experience alone. lol

Any names out there for Ms. Smith's replacement?

Have not been to the field in a few days looking forward to see how the process helps with the growth of the bermuda grass. It is supposed to be really something. How did the 7 on 7 go last night, wanted to attend but was out of town.

This may not be the proper formn for this subject but here goes. After many years of waiting and raising money for these projects the Harlan City Schools have themselves a very nice and compact all sports complex. It was very nice to see kids using the track, baseball field, lighted tennis courts, and now a new softball field for the girls at the same time during the spring sports season. For a class A system with limited funds this complex is an example of having a plan and seeing it through. So from the top of Mountain Pride I would like to send my thanks to Sup. David Johnson and boardmember Joe Meadors for a job well done. Children and adults will have nice facilities to practice and compete for many years to come. BTW it was a real gesture to allow the track teams from Cumberland and Cawood to practice on Harlan's track. (SPORTSMANSHIP AT ITS FINEST)

Look for Harlan to be in the finals against SL, I just have a feeling that this is the year for coach Evans and his boys.

Thanks HDE, do you have any records prior to the restart of baseball at Harlan in 82?

HDE I knew that if anyone had this info it would be you, the 67 team that won the region and went to the final eight in the state went into the district at 5-7 and got hot at the right time. I think that I might be on to something, I can't find anybody that seems to think that this has ever been done before by a Harlan team.

I have been checking around to see if any team from Harlan has ever won 20+ games in a season, if anyone has this info please forward it on. I have not got to see everyone in the region but I agree that the Dragons are very capable of going to the finals and beyond.

Coach Evans has been around for a while he started at Evarts then Cawood now at Harlan, this was his first district title, which I found to be a surprise because his teams are always prepared.

Harlan's Patrick Ball pitched a gem and got some nice help from Josh Johnson's bat 2/3 2 RBI. Great job Coach Evans getting over 20 wins is a very nice season for any mountain club.

I just can't understand why that we have not heard from Whyme and Lungbuster on this subject, and the questions that it raises.

My bad HDE I misread the article on the gym seating. What is your opinion on the original question of what, if any bearing this will have on getting top flight coaches?

It was reported at last weeks board meeting that because of the ever growing cost of construction that the school itself will be able to open on time but there will not be any athletic complex (football stadium, baseball, softball field or track and there will not be any seats in the gym and auditrorium.

In light of the announcment of the new school not having athletic facillities when the school opens in 2008, what will this do in regards to getting top notch coaches to show interest in this job?

Prior to the 06 season Coach Hensley's staff had an overall record of 40-9 so he should be ok given the youth of the 06 team. At the 4A now 6A level there are no easy wins you have to bring it each and every week, look for the dogs to be much more of a seasoned team this fall.

I hear that there are three homes for rent on Donahue Drive right in the heart of the city district, anyone see any moving vans in the area? Dragon Pappy you better get on and defend your honor before this thread is final.

I see the Trojans making some much needed prograss to which a six win season is not out of the question if they can have some success early and start to feel good about themselves. I hear that spring ball is going pretty good they have lost some numbers but they should be able to dress 45-50 come this fall, and thats a big improvment on its own.

With their schedule 6-4, maybe 7-3 but its very early to make a prediction. How's that for playing nice? lol

To say never got it done is a little strong, from 73 till 77 Cawood was a very good program, and the Culley years were as good or better for a longer period of time. Since then however it has been only average to well below average and HDE I think that you could agree to that. To have had only one regional championship in both men's primary sports with the resources that have been afforded this school in over 40 years of competition wouldn't you say that is rather weak? What does everyone else think?

Well this is going to be odd, but I have to admit that I mispoke on the Bobby Reed issue,and LB is right it was his age and not grades that caused him to be ineledgible, but rules are rules and was he deemed to be to old and that is the way it goes no matter how petty the violation. I am not saying that the postition Harlan took in this matter was right and Cawood was wrong, only these are some of the things that lead to the two schools not playing any sport. Harlan sports teams from football season 73 to 76 was horrible and couldn't compete with hardly anyone much less a school with (at the time four times your enrollment). And because of my personal situation during this era I am in a much clearer postition to see both sides and understand their viewpoints.

He is a very nice and classy person, but the guy that put this team together is the asst. Derrick Akal who is the police chief in Cumberland, he does all of the game situation coaching and 99% of the practice time, and I know some of you scribes have to notice it. All I was saying is he deserves to get some ink from some media outlets, show him some love too!
