I've never really understood the reasoning behind not playing in a district.

 

Most teams know going in to the season, if they can or can't compete for the district title. And out of those who think they can, not all of those end of being able to.

 

People know who you are and aren't beating. If you drop out and win 8 or 9 games against absolutely awful teams, you aren't impressing anybody. Stay in a district, play who you have to and try and make it work in your non-district schedule to pad those wins if you need the job security.

 

 

For me, just solely in the off chance that you might catch lightning one season and the right teams are down, I would want to stay in district play.

 

 

The only reason I could ever personally justify it, would be if I was at a school that was basically on an island. If the nearest school in my district is 1 1/2 hours away, but there's some schools I could compete with and everything like that, I might consider it. But, even then, it just doesn't feel like something I would want. It almost feels like you're ducking out on a challenge.

From the outside looking in... I believe GC needs to hire a very young coach with an elementary kid who plays. This will enable the coach to see the whole system from top to bottom.

I also believe that if the districts change as many people on here say, GC would play in the proposed district. This would help get a coach.

It goes back to a booster program that only supports the youth program. What bingo money there is goes to the youth. The individuals in charge of the boosters and youth have a strained relationship with the rest of football in the county.

Interesting question. May have to give it some thought. They've had several that have gone on and played at the next level (DIII or NAIA), but that doesn't necessarily mean that the best players actually did, if they wanted to go to school elsewhere.

I think my vote would probably go to Dillon Pelfrey as far as who was simply the most skilled and talented player to ever play for GC. He was borderline talented DI for football. I also don’t really go back that far so that’s just based on who I’ve seen.
