Carson Palmer Retires

Same day it’s announced Marvin signs 2 year extension!

Nice career 9 or 3.

He had two severe injurys that hurt is career a bit, solid QB.

Solid career but not great for the 1st overall pick. However he did show was better than just a backup qb that people said he should have been back when he was here.

Hard to come back from that Von Oelhoffen roll that tore his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament, in the 2005 Wildcard Playoff game. I was at the game that day and that very first play killed our dreams for the season and I knew he had taken a very hard rolling hit to the knee. He did return to play again after surgeries to repair the injury and intensive rehab. But he could never get back to that Super Bowl form.

Congratulations on your retirement Carson and wish you well.

People don't seem to remember Palmer actually that very next season had a better season in 2006 than 2005. That knee injury had very little effect on his career imo. The injury that had a big impact was his elbow injury in 2008. His arm looked no where near as good anymore after that.

The shock of the destructive hit to his knee affected him mentally, too. It also limited his movement. He just never got back that top notch attitude and form. He could have become so much more. But that's life, you have to roll with the punches.

His numbers don't support your theory. He was still awesome the very next year after his injury. Which you would have thought that be the year that would have been toughest mentally and physically to overcome and yet he still did awesome and would have led the team to playoffs if not for special teams.

The whole he was never the same after that knee injury is simply a false narrative and numbers don't support it. Numbers do support his elbow injury had a much bigger impact on his career. Especially right away.

I heard a stat on Palmer that surprised me at first. Palmer is #12 all time in passing yards in NFL history. As of now more passing yards than Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, Steve Young, .... many more. After thinking about it though, he played in a pass happy era, 16 game seasons and he started for a long time so those all add up.

I was a little surprised to hear where he ranked in some of the career passing categories as well.
